Hi @divot,

Thanks for stopping by the HP Support Forums! 🙂 Good day. 🙂 I understand that you are looking for assistance regarding disk defragmentation issues.t will be a genuine pleasure to assist you here. 🙂

You’ve done your bit of copious and extensive diagnosis and troubleshooting before posting your query in the HP forums. Kudos to you for that. Great  Job! 🙂 You are a valued HP customer and we appreciate you greatly for doing business with HP. I take it as a privilege to share this platform with you. 🙂

For better clarity and to assist you better, I would like more information regarding this.

  • Please let me know the complete model# of the unit and the operating system.
  • Please explain the situation clearly with a screenshot or a picture sent from your smartphone of the exact screen.
  • Do you get any error messages while trying to defragment the hard drive?
  • What is the reason for defragmenting the drive?

I will give you a generic link for disk defragmenting assuming the operating system is windows 10.

Please follow the option “Defragment the hard disk drive” and perform the steps mentioned in it. There is an associated video on how to defrag the drive also. The defrag process (progress bar) will go all the way to 100%

Hope this helps. Let me know how this goes. I genuinely hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and the unit works great. 🙂 Please reach out for any issues and I'll be there to assist you.

To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles. 🙂

Take care now and have a splendid week ahead. 🙂

First, open 'Accessories'  from the Windows start-up menu.

Choose 'Disk Cleanup', to remove files that are superfluous.

Then, open "File Manager".

Click with the second (usually the RIGHT) mouse-button on the 'C:' disk-drive.

Choose 'Properties'.

Choose 'Tools'.

Click to run "Disk Defragmenter".

Let it run -- it could take HOURS to complete.

Hi @divot,

I read your response. Disk defragment process will take a long time to complete. The progress bar will go all the way to 100%. It should not stop at 11%. Please allow it to complete. Please send a screenshot and explain what is wrong with defragmenting process on your computer. Does it not complete or does it not run?
