Oh, no that's not good news.  I did order a non-warranty (paid) replacement from Amazon, and it had same issue, so I returned.  You'd think in 2017, they'd be able to build a reliable power connector.

I just bought the Spectre as well. I noticed that the USB-C connector  on the power cable did not fully engage by about 1/16 of an inch and that the weight of the cable put a downward stress on the connection. I reasoned that if the insulated collar of the cable connector was flush with the side of the laptop it would add some much needed support.

The HP representative said we would try a power cable replacement and if that didn't work, to return the computer to replace or re-orient the Mother Board to suit this cable fit up. By this , I'm assuming, the computer side of the USB C connection is intergrated to the mother board.  In the meantime, I bought a 3 inch USB C to USB3 adapter cable tried it and that did not fit up  flush as well(it was better). I received a new power cable from HP and that was an improvement (talking about micro inches here) but  the connector did not "flush up" with the side of the computer. I do have a USB 3 port on my Spectre, so i tried a memory stick in it. This also does not connect flush to the laptop. But this would not concern me as it does not have a three foot cable (with weight)hanging off the end of it and it is a much tighter and deeper fit.  When companies manufature these connectors they have to meet certain tolerances. On hindsite, I doubt replacing the power cable is the fix.

I'm concluding  that: this connection point is not very robust for power application; a CF type connection ,such as used with headphones, would have been much better power connection ; any use with the power cable should be done at a table where the cable is laying flat not stressing the connection;  and if you are re-orienting this computer in any way(2 in 1 capabilty)- do not have the cable installed.

I love the looks and performance of this laptop. I was planning to keep it a long time. But I'm  very disappointed with this aspect of it.
