Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I would like to install a second ssd on this notebook.  It currently has a single 128 GB ssd installed.  It does have touch screen.  Can anyone tell me what options I have?

Hi,

Your laptop is HP Pavilion 17t-ab000 CTO (ENERGY STAR)

Manual: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c05123465

You can put another 2.5 inch SATA SSD in the empty hard drive bay.

Your laptop came with 128gb M.2 SATA SSD in its M.2 slot

Thank you for the quick response.  You are correct regarding the current drive configuration.  I read elsewhere on the forum that there may be additional hardware required to install a 2nd ssd (I'm not sure what model they were referencing).  Can you tell me whether I'll need anything like a cable or screws, or rubber isolators?

You're welcome.

Yes you need this:
Hard drive connector and cable : 857462-001

https://www.amazon.com/Sparepart-Inc-CABLE-HDD-857462-001/dp/B01L4ALJXQ

HDD caddy is not spared separately by HP. So no part number.

Wow...they're proud of that cable!  I found it for $27 at another site.  Thank you again!

Hello again Provost.  I opened the notebook last night and I was wondering if you could describe the location of the 2d hdd bay.  I'm guessing it's immediately adjacent to the optical drive bay (towards the back or hinge side of the laptop).  There is a tab about 3 inches long with one slotted hole and one round hole.  Unfortunately, they're closer together than the holes in the 2.5" ssd (Samsung EVO).  I suppose I'll need a caddy along with the cable, but as of yet, I've not been able to find one for this notebook - the only one Ive found is designed to be installed in the optical drive bay.  Can you point me in the right direction?

Many thanks,

Guy Seela

Hi Guy Seela,

HDD caddy part number is not listed in your manual.

The link for replacement video: shows the exact position of hard drive bays.

You can put 2.5 inch SATA SSD in primary HDD bay instead of secondary bay as your laptop came with M.2 SATA SSD from factory

Sorry, I overlooked the video link (and spent considerable time looking for one without success).  That's perfect!  Thanks Virsuth.
