Yesterday my father gave me his friend's laptop for me to look into why it isn't booting. I removed the HD, tried to reseat the RAM modules. When I wanted to remove the RAM I was in shock when I saw it didn't have any. I suppose that's an expansion slot?

The flash icon blinks 11 times till it turns white on the 12th time after which the ( i ) LED (on the right to the power button) flashes once.

The notebook is not going to boot without RAM and will throw a CAPS LOCK LED blink code.  Take a look at the notebook's Maintenance and Service Guide to ensure that you're checking the correct area for the memory.

Let me know if this helps.

The notebook still isn't working and it's lying unscrewed next to me.
The RAM is there. It was the expansion slot that puzzled me.
Another member said one of his notebook's screws caused some sort of short. I couldn't find such a screw.
Do HP notebooks work without their batteries?
I browsed the 6730b manuals and guides but there wasn't a list explaining the meaning
of how often a light is blinking.

This was the only sentence with some sort of a help.
Blinking amber: A battery that is the only available power
source has reached a low battery level. When the battery
reaches a critical battery level, the battery light begins blinking
rapidly.

Thank you for your time AttackofZaq.

Hello again!

I'll be honest, I do not recognize that blink pattern.  Most consumer notebooks made by HP follow a set pattern for the blink codes, which you can view here.  None of these match your error.

It may be a good idea to post your question on the HP Business Boards.  These forums deal specifically with Enterprise products (such as this notebook) and may be able to offer insight which I do not have.  Here is a link to the boards.

Have a great day!

Hi. I'm having the same issue, did you find a solution?

No, I'm so sorry :S. The laptop ended up in Poland. I've always been meaning to find out what happened to that laptop in the end.

I suspected it to be the AC power adapter, cause it didn't even boot properly. I have one of those multi-plug power adapters from Trust, but it didn't work on that laptop. I lacked the proper tools do to a thorough troubleshoot.

Since I didn't post in the business section forum on this website as AttackofZaq suggested, I did a quick search now. Some people had problems after leaving a USB stick plugged in and rebooted.

Hi there , mite be a bit late but the 6730b i got to use for parts with this fault 11 flashes them white then nothing  ,the fault was in 1 of the power supplies , if you have removed the arm rest and if you look just below the cdrom on the mother board you will see a coil marked 4R7 , the bigger one on the left not the smaller one on the right , just to the left of this part you will see a small black doide marked NEE jJ8 , in mine this part was shorted out , if you have some soldering skill you can replace this , i removed the 4R7 first so i could get at it and used the same part from another board that had another type of fault .

Hope this helps .

Thank you for posting a possible solution. I don't think I'll have access to that laptop anymore but I will ask the guy what happened to it.

Good you didn't hesitate from posting. 🙂 thank you
