Elitebook 8470p
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

I have an Elitebook 8470p that runs extremely hot.

I have the OEM fan that came with it which is the Delta Electronics KSB0505HB (641839-01).  I've also tried a replacement of the same fan, but it's not cooling it any better.

I've noticed that some versions seem to come with another fan, it's a - ForceCon 6033B0024002

My questions are:

- Are there any details about these fans - RPM's and cooling rating?

- I see the ForceCon is 0.5A while the one I have is 0.4A (both are 5V).  Is it safe to use the ForceCon in place of the Delta Electronic?

- Would the higher amperage possibly indicate more power/high RPM/better cooling?

I would like to buy one on eBay, but I don't want my computer to explode 🙂

Thanks

These fans are somewhat of a commodity product. There are a lot of internet sellers who will get bad fan/HEATSINK units and refurbish them with new fans...perfectly legitimate if not official. The only way to know you are getting pure OEM is to buy straight from HP. The rpms of the fan are pretty much controlled by the motherboard/BIOS. All these fans are capable of running up to say 2000-3000 ? rpm and the fact that one has a little less current draw likely means it is newer and uses a better motor. Ebay is generally a safe place to buy these kinds of products as long as it is a high-reputation seller. They are all made in a factory city in China somewhere anyway

Thanks for your response.  I think many of your assumptions are the same as mine.  I wasn't sure if the 0.4A meant it was newer with a lower power draw, or if it meant it was weaker (lower RPM).  I guess that's the million dollar question: is there any chance I can expect better cooling with the 0.5A one?  If not, I won't bother.  I just wish the manufacturers had some sort of published specs on it.  I couldn't find anything...

That is not a half-bad product idea and I am sure it could be rigged up pretty easily. Somebody should patent it quickly
