I upgraded from Windows 8 to 8.1 with Windows Update with no problems or missing drivers.

Later, I bought and downloaded  Windows 8.1 Pro, and burned the OS on a DVD.  I deleted all previous partitions and executed the long version of hard drive format.  Then I successfully made a clean install of Windows 8.1 Pro.  I had to reinstall some drivers from the saved C:\SWSetup folder contents of the previous OS.

I have not been able to find the missing driver for Hardware ID:

ACPI\VEN_HPQ&DEV_0004
ACPI\HPQ0004
*HPQ0004

Thanks in advance for any assistance with a link/info for the hardware driver!

Greetings BH,

Thank you for your time and assistance.  However, that link to sp63786 wouldn't install.  But your mention of installing HP 3D DriveGuard Software was key for me finding the correct software/drivers.

As I mentioned in my request for assistance, I searched again in the saved C:/SWSetup folder prior to reformatting the C drive.  I found the correct HP 3D DriveGuard Software in subfolder "sp58423".  This installed flawlessly and eliminated the Unknown Device message observed in Device Manager.  This is the solution.  For anyone buying Windows 8.1 Professional to install on a computer with Windows 8 or 8.1 pre-installed, let me stress to save C:/SWSetup and all subfolders.

I appreciate you putting me on track to find my solution with HP 3D DriveGuard Software!

Best regards,

HL
