We are struggling with activating this.

We've allowed this activation.rgs.ext.hp.com on our firewall for the receiver - And if we put this https:// activation.rgs.ext.hp.com into a web browser it connects and shows the certificate is valid. However it still doesn't activate. And the registration file isn't written on the receiver.

What did we miss or could we test?

Can you try this test?  This will tell you if you are hitting the activation server or not.  We do have a manual process that I can help you with to activate AVC.

You should see the word FAILURE as a reply because you didn’t give it data, but it received the request.

Hi Kelly... thanks for the reply..

Yes I get failure when I go to that site http://activation.rgs.ext.hp.com/rgs

We are going thru a VPN but we think we have done it correctly.. We basically block most internet traffic once connected to the VPN but have specifically allowed the activation location.

The remote users PC's aren't ours so they aren't under our direct control.

So, the way the internet activation works is the receiver starts the process.  The receiver connects to the sender and collects the following info (UUID, Make and Model, OS, and version of Remote Boost).  It then takes that info and collects its own info (same categories) and sends that to the activation server.  The activation is a paired activation, and is done one time.  If this same receiver connects to another sender and has not done this activation, the process will be repeated.

We do have customers that don't allow internet access so we have a manual process.  I have tools that I need to send along with instructions and the tools must be ran on each sender and receiver that you want AVC activated on.  That output gets sent back to me, and I perform the manual activation.  I will create a file that needs to be loaded on each system you ran the tool on.  So it is a bit of a process, but if you need this let me know.

we want really to make this work automatically. So where are we getting stuck.. The receiver seems to be able to connect to the activation server, the sender can be connected to the receiver because we can have remote sessions. The sender is mostly on the internet. Both machines are win 10. they are users and not admins. Where are we getting stuck.. Do we have to enable some other traffic back from the sender to the receiver? We can;' get it to work anywhere so it isn't machine specific..  There must be some other communication that we are stopping?

HP Velocity is the only thing that changes traffic on port 42966 which is what the sender and receiver communicate on.  It changes the traffic from TCP to UDP.  Before connecting to the sender, make sure the receiver has AVC enabled in the settings.

Then make the connection.  The activation should then be performed automatically for you as long as you can reach the activation server, which in our previous posts, you said you got the word "FAILURE" which means you are reaching the activation server but did not send it anything.  If you are getting an error, I would check your firewall settings.  The IP address for the activation server is in the user guide if you need to set a proxy.
