I will note with some interest that there must be multiple ways of pausing/postponing Windows updates.  Blyat is able to press the "Pause" button 4 times for a 7 day pause each time.  In the build of Windows 10 64-bit that I am using, the steps to produce a "maximum pause" differ a bit.  My system works this way:

  1. Click Start > Settings
  2. In the box, type "update", then click "Windows Update settings"
  3. Scroll down and click on "Advanced options"
  4. Click on (turn on) "Show a notification when your PC requires a restart to finish updating"
  5. In the drop down menu under Pause Updates, select the last available date on the list
  6. Relax for 35 days

To answer a previous question, yes, at some point, you will need to actually do the Windows updates.  Since we don't know when or if Windows/AMD/HP will fix the broken driver issue, you will need to be prepared to allow the Windows updates to complete, then manually reapply the AMD Radeon Graphics driver fix according to the instructions.  So keep your fix scenario handy.  You may be able to skip the "AMD Cleanup" portion of that fix since you have done that, and just reapply the "Select and install the correct driver" option - just run the utility that you have already downloaded!

Thank you for the tips, but I find this situation completely unacceptable. I purchased this laptop (15M-EE0013DX)

with the ONLY purpose of teaching online via Zoom video (I am a University Professor) and for the homeschooling of my 5-year old daughter (also via Zoom video) during the Pandemic. I regret the purchase because the laptop works wonderfully EXCEPT when videoconferencing with Zoom. It is not a problem that occurs ALL the time, but it happens about every other day and it is part of my job. In the middle of the conference (sometimes while taking or giving a test) I receive a message about a problem with the microphone or the audio, then a hear a high-pitch sound which doesn´t stop even if I try to restart the computer. The only way to shut it down is by pressing the power button for a few seconds.

I tried EVERYTHING regarding software and drivers, but there seems to some kind of incompatibility of the AMD/Windows/HP drivers with Zoom. I first uninstalled all related drivers and reinstalled them back. After a second incident, I uninstalled the same drivers and installed an AMD program that updates its own drivers (independently from Windows 10). Finally, after another crash, I created a bootable USB and reinstalled Windows 10. I did all these things following the instructions of HP’s tech support agents. I wasted many hours. The result has always been the same: error message in the middle of the conference about microphone/audio and a horrible sound that only stops after hard shutdown.

What I find interesting is that after doing each of those three things I have thoroughly run all (HP and Windows 10) tests and the unit passes them all; but the problem persists, which leads me to think that the HP Assistant is useless.

I finally had to send the computer to HP for repair and  I purchased an extended warranty (I hope not to regret that too…)

I don´t have many hopes that they will fix the problem since this seems to be due to defective drivers, something that HP hasn´t been able to address.

I have used dozens of different computers (both PCs and Macs) since the 1980s and never experienced a problem like this with a brand new unit. They should allow us to replace this laptop with a different model since this is clearly defective.

I believe the issue us Windows update keeps overriding the better drivers. I am working with AMD on the issue. Unlike HP, they seem to care.

Thank you, Musicpos! Please keep us updated on any progress in your conversations with the AMD people.

Will the use of a USB external microphone solve the problem after deactivating the laptop's internal one?

HP Recommended

yes it should. you can also use a Bluetooth headset with mic instead of as usb mic.

this is unacceptable from you guys.  Clearly the issue is driver related from Windows over riding the AMD Drivers with some broken outdated ones. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS, IT IS HAPPENING TO MANY LAPTOPS

Thanks for your post - I just got my laptop on Tuesday and I have had issues with my ZOOM meeting on Saturday and again today.  Like the computer just froze and was giving off a constant loud irritating noise like feedback.  I closed ZOOM and the sound wouldn't stop until I shut the computer off - feeling a little disappointed that this is happening within the first week of owning a new laptop - hopefully this can get resolved soon.  I'm running Windows 10, Ryzen 5 with RADEON graphics.

Thanks for your post - not sure if I feel better or worse about my laptop after reading your post - at least I'm not alone.  Maybe I won't 'recycle' my old laptop as quickly as I thought I would.

Thanks for your post - I think I might be having the same issues on my laptop.  It happened to me twice today during my ZOOM meeting - the first time was after an hour and a half the second time was only after 10 minutes.  Fortunately, my wife was connected to the same meeting and could run over to her computer and stay connected.  I've only had the laptop for 5 days and I noticed this issue after Windows did an update on Thursday night.  I only noticed because when I opened the computer it had the older version of Windows Explorer where you could 'mark up' the web pages - then it did an update and installed the new MS explorer without that feature.  It was after the update that I started to notice the issue with ZOOM because I had a ZOOM meeting on Wednesday evening and had no issues.  Hopefully this gets resolved soon.
