Hello everyone,

before I get to relief my frustrations, here's some basic information you might need 🙂

I have a HP Pavilion dv7 (yeah, one of those) 1140eb. Intel processors, whatever, and I wanted to update my BIOS.

My BIOS-version right now is F.12 28/08/2008 and there's an update from Januari 2011 which I really want because maybe it would solve a lot of problems (overheating, keyboard/network/battery/graphics issues).

I upgraded to windows 7 Ultimate some years ago but started with Windows Vista (maybe important?).

Here's the site from HP with the drivers (and the BIOS .exe) for my dv7 1140eb Entertainment blabla. http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?os=4062&lc=nl&cc=be&dlc=nl&sw_lang=&product=3829...

OKAY, now here's the thing and even more important, my problem:

When I download the .exe file (5.23MB) and run it afterwards:

1. it shows me the installation wizard, very nice

2. it extracts the exe file, also very nice,

3. it opens INSYDEFLASH, even more nice,

BUT THEN THIS ERROR MESSAGE POPS UP IN INSYDFLASH:

' There isn't any ROM file in this directory'

- I press 'OK' and EVERYTHING DISSAPPEARS. Everytime, over and over again. Also with previous versions.

SO IT WON'T WORK, THANKS A LOT, HP, TO GIVE AN OFFICIAL BIOS FILE WITHOUT A ROM FILE WHICH YOUR BIOS CAN'T UPDATE WITH. (or something like that)

So let me get this straight: in order for me (and everyone) to update the BIOS, I (and everyone) need(s) a ROM file, right?

Let's say HP gives me all I need: I got .ini .dll .exe files extracted from the sp51315.exe 'BIOS' file, what do I have to do? I'm desperate, and I don't want to download any other BIOS upgrade than the one of HP :'(

So here's my question:

What do I have to do to make Insydeflash work (WHERE THE ROM FILE AT?)

Greetings and thank you already!

Tom

I have just had this exact same issue.

The problem is the checking systems in place. When the checks come back without finding the right code the copy isn't performed and the update fails. The file is there, but the system renames the right one (there is more than one) based on the codes returned.

For anyone else that might stumble on this problem, here's the solution I found.

All you need to do is start the updates from the one after your version, and continue to for each update (you can probably skip in small chunks, but you might as well do the updates in order to be safe).

That's it! Just start at the begining :generic:

Hope it helps someone out.

so may i ask how do you update the bios without jumping?

Sorry for the confusion, I had actually replied to a post on page one, message 4 by BernsBelgium (thinking they would link as a reply, how silly of me).

As for how not to jump (for niniss post 190). I just mean it is possible to download newer updates for the bios, and attempt to install these before the preceding updates.

And as my reply to this (http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Operating-Systems-and-Software/BIOS-insydeflash-error-HP-GIVES...) post should inform, this will result in a failure.

Hi  @niniss ,

I moved your post here to get the proper answer. 🙂

Best,

Russ

I worked for HP.

Amy,  I think i understood what you said and that's why i asked how to get the bios updated one by one instead of jumping to the latest.   I remember when i tried to update the bios, the hp site just listed one (i assume it was the latest) so there's no way for me to know how many updates in between that i have skipped.

Oh okay. If there is only one update, then there is only one, and in this case should install fine.

However, for my laptop, there was a link under the Bios update that said "(‏Previous versions available)‏". Clicking this link took me to a page with a table of all the available updates. I just selected each in turn and as a result have a happy lappy :generic:

Me again,

Thank you, thank you, thank you² !

I installed the previous BIOS updates one by one, building up to the most recent one. Worked like a charm!

I'm so happy, my numeric keyboard finally worked after more than 5 years or so, I can't even describe the happiness I feel right now! Marvellous!

Thank you! PROBLEM SOLVED

Cheers,

Tom
