I recently got a blue screen of death with "Bad pool header" caused by "ntoskrnl" and after running both Windows and HP's diagnostic it came back with mixed results, the windows memory diagnostic came back with "Hardware problems detected" but using HP's memory diagnostic came back with "PASSED". I recently updated four drivers I downloaded from HP's website, video, audio, bluetooth and wireless lan, could one of these I updated be causing it? Windows event viewer didn't log anything before or after the "bad pool header" error. All help is appreciated.

Hi @KevinMP7
Welcome to the HP Forums!
I appreciate you taking the time to share your concern and thank you for using this forum, it is a great place to find answers.
Saw your post and I understand that you are getting bad pool header error.
I’d love to help!
A pool header issue is a problem with Windows memory allocation. Device driver issues are probably the most common, but this can have diverse causes including bad sectors or other disk write issues, and problems with some routers. (By theory, RAM problems would be suspect for memory pool issues).
I recommend you to update all the driver on your computer and check if that helps. If the issue persists, run system file check.
System File Checker is a utility in Windows that allows users to scan for corruptions in Windows system files and restore corrupted files. It will scan your system files and to repair missing or corrupted system files in Windows. To run the SFC scan, refer to the Microsoft article below.

I got no "Bad Pool Header" at all today, laptop ran like a swiss watch and continues to go strong, maybe it was a fluke? Also its a clean factory reset so I doubt its file corruption, I did update a few drivers after but after a few adjustments, everything seems fine.

Unfortunately, I got another blue screen of death last night at 8:44 PM but this time it was "MEMORY_MANAGEMENT", I just don't get it, I ran an extensive 45 minute memory check using HP's UEFI Diagnostic program on my memory and got "PASSED" yet it almost seems like there's a faulty RAM module in this new laptop I got on the 1st of this month. Any help is appreciated, all drivers are updated, bios is updated and power setting is on "High Performance" which was changed from HP Recommended.

Hi @KevinMP7
Thank you for posting back.
The most simple, and the most common solution for this problem is to simply restart your computer. After the restart, you shouldn’t get this error message anymore. So, before you try anything else, just restart your computer and see if the issue is fixed. However, if MEMORY_MANAGEMENT error message still appears, after you restarted your computer, there’s something more advanced you should try.
SFC Scanner is one of the most cliché solutions for Windows-related problems, in this case, it may actually be helpful, because it repairs system files, and corrupted, or changed system files are exactly the cause of our problem. If you’re not sure how to run the SFC Scanner, do the following:
- Right-click on the Start Menu button, and choose Command Prompt (Admin)
- Enter the following line, and press enter: sfc/scannow
- Wait for the process to finish (it will take a couple of minutes)
- Restart your computer
Let me know how it goes and you have a great day.

My latest blue screen occurance is "DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE" caused by "hal.dll" and "ntoskrnl". I have all of the latest drivers installed and are set on High Performance, but I read that it can be caused by a driver going into "sleep" status but doesn't come out of sleep when its supposed to, just odd it happened while playing a game.
