Hi,
I am currently using a HP Pavilion dv6-7007TX Entertainment Notebook PC running Windows 7 64 bit. My problem is that the battery percentage shown on the right side of taskbar is always showing 100%. It will not decrease no matter how long I am on the notebook. A few days ago, while I am switching on the laptop, before windows 7 starts to load, there was a message which had something to do with the battery but I can't remember what the message was (Only that it has something to do with battery).
This is causing a real problem for me as I do not know when should I charge the laptop.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Does this error message show every time you boot the notebook? Had you noticed any other battery life issues leading up to this point?
I originally felt this was a calibration problem. Meaning the battery has forgotten where exactly its 0% and 100% points were. This is the usual cause for issues relating to showing the correct remaining battery/time. Even though the battery test passed I would still like to rule this out as the cause. I'm going to suggest performing two steps in one: a hard reset and a manual battery calibration. Follow these steps and let me know the result.
Hard Reset and Manual Calibration
- Shut down your notebook.
- Remove AC power and battery.
- Hold power button for 10-15 seconds to drain residual power.
- Replace the battery/AC Power and turn the notebook back on.
- After the hard reset plug the notebook up and allow it to charge for several hours.
- After charging unplug the AC power and run the HP Hard Disk Check in HP Support Assistant until the notebook powers itself off. Make sure to keep it from sleeping during this time.
- After the battery is fully drained charge the notebook again.
- Run the battery test one more time to make sure there is no change and determine if Windows is now reporting the correct amount of battery life.

So AlanWTL, when you try to boot the notebook you get an error stating the "battery capacity is very low?" That sounds like your battery may be having a problem holding it's charge.
The first thing to try is to make sure the battery is detected properly and doesn't need calibrating. So, you should first run the HP battery test. Here is a link with instructions on how to run the test. Make sure to post the results and have a great day!

Thanks for your reply.
I did what you said and ran a battery test. The result of the test is 'PASSED' when i used the preferred method. And when i check it with HP Support Assistant, the status is 'OK'.
Where do I go from here?

The error message does not show up every time I boot the notebook. There was once when the battery actually showed 70% but it turn off after about 5 minutes as it ran out of battery.
With regards to the hard reset and manual calibration, I am not sure about what you are trying to say at step 4. After draining the residual power in step 3, do I put the battery back in the notebook and also plug in the charger?
Is it possible to me clearer in the steps after step 3? I'm not a very IT savvy person...

Sure thing, AlanWTL. In step 3 you want to hold the power button without a battery or AC power installed. The reason you do this is to drain the last bits of power which may be stored in the notebook's parts. Pressing and holding the button for 10+ seconds will drain this power allowing the notebook to start fresh.
In step 4 you want to reinstall the battery and plug the notebook back up so that it may charge completely before continuing. I see that I was a little confusing in step 4 so I also edited my post to make it a little clearer.
