Hello everyone.
I just ran the Battery Check from the HP support assistant.
It says the battery is healthy.
But when I clicked on advanced it showed me that the cycle count is 220/300.
What does this exactly mean?
Someone told me that the 300 is the maximum charge cycles before the battery fails.
But if that's true, that would mean that my battery is going to fail within 2 years of use...
Don't know if it's important to mention, but it's a ENVY14 (first gen) model.
Could somebody give me a brief explanation?
Thanks in advance 🙂

Hello,
I see that you have a question about the battery. Now, the number on a cycle count for your battery means how many times the battery has been drained then charged. Now, drained doesn't mean 0%, it basically means any time the battery level has been decreased from 100% and then charge from there. If you're having an issue with the battery I suggest you call HP@09002020165 before the warranty doesn't cover that part on the notebook.
The reason behind you not finding the battery to purchase could be because the notebook isn't supported in that country or the website you have visited doesn't have it in stock. Now, looks to me the battery isn't in stock on HP part surfer or Part store.
You can call HP and have them check and see if they have the battery in stock.
If you have any more questions please let me know.

Another quick question about the Slim Fit battery for the ENVY14-series:
It can be ordered in the USA through HP's shopping website ( http://www.shopping.hp.com/en_US/home-office/-/products/AC-Adapters-and-Batteries/Laptop-Batteries/W... )
But it seems it cannot be bought in the Netherlands.
When I go to the Parts Store I can find it through the product number (602410-001), but it says it cannot be ordered...
It's strange that it is for sale in the USA and cannot be ordered here in the Netherlands.
Any ideas why this is and how I can order it?
Thanks

First of all, thanks guys for all the replies 😄
Ok so the cycle count is nothing more then the number of times I've charged this battery and the (expected) maximum times I can charge this battery is 300.
So that means I've got around 75 charges left before it will fail (if I get it right)..
Strange, because I've been searching on google (while awaiting your replies 😛 ) and on the Apple website it says that the batteries inside the Macbook (Pro/Air) are supposed to be able to go through 1000 cycles before they fail (one cycle on their website is defined as a charge from 0% to 100%, so for example 2x charging a 50% battery would be one cycle)
source: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1519
My battery is now 1 1/2 years in use (though HPSA says its 753 days old) and so far I've noticed a decrease in battery life of about 1/2 hour (used to reach 4:45h now around 4:15h)
And according to BatteryBar the current capacity is 54000 (compared to the original 59000)
So as far as I can see it all looks good for a battery of this age
And isn't the warrenty for a battery normallyook like the battery 1 year? That would mean that is isn't covered anymore. Can't find it anywhere on the HP website though. Or do the ENVY-series batteries get a special treatment? 😄
Thanks again guys!!

You can call HP @8004746836 and check if they have any type of support going on for the battery. I doubt they would to be honest. The good thing here is you don't have an issue with the battery so I wouldn’t worry too much until something comes up.
Now, with the battery cycle, you’re comparing a 2,000$ notebook to a 500$ notebook. The battery in each notebook is different, Battery cycle or Battery Life. The logic behind this is every notebook will not have the same battery especially two different brands.
Hope this give you a better perspective on the situation. If you have any more questions let me know.

Here is a little more information on batteries, Understanding Lithium-ion and Smart Battery Technology.
And if you'd like to test and calibrate the battery, Testing and Calibrating the Battery (Windows 7)
Hopefully these will add to your understanding of the battery, its cycle count, and its condition.
Thanks,
I work on behalf of HP.

The ENVY14-series notebooks were sold at 1200-1500 in the Netherlands euro depending on the model (with/without Radiance display).
The Macbook Pro/Air is being sold at the same price range, though you can configure it to a more expensive model (but the battery will always be the same).
So I wasn't trying to compare a cheap notebook with an expensive one, as they both are quite expensive laptops 🙂
I know that you cannot compare the ENVY and Macbook 1:1, but the difference between 300 and 1000 cycles is quite a lot 😛
Anyways, thanks for all the info/help (thanks for the links GeorgeFN!)
Awesome to see that HP employees help costumers in their free time. Keep up the good work 😄
Kudos!

Yea, and the macbook/air has a sealed battery which will and should have a longer life cycle than any HP laptop.
Also, the Macbook/Air is a very expensive notebook compared to the Envy or the notebook you have.
Basically the reason the Mac has more of a battery cycle is because it's sealed vs. replaceable.
