Got my $150 back from best buy yesterday. Gotta love holiday return period
Did anyone who got the price match get any free software bundled with your spectre? I just went to Best Buy to ask about the price match. They were not able to do it without refunding it and repurchasing it because it was Bundled ( I had gotten a free 6 months of Kapersky bundled with it that I haven't even opened); They can't adjust anything bundled. I didn't want to repurchase it because I'm currently in CA and didn't want to pay CA tax on it when I'd previous purchased it in NH. Unfortunately, I don't have the Kapersky disk with me or I'd just return it.
They also claimed that while the return policy was extended for the holidays, the price match is only for 14 days. I just read the policy from their website and it says that they will price match during the return and exchange period

Just to close the loop, I called Best Buy and had no trouble getting the price match via phone. It took about 2 minutes. Lesson learned...It's a lot less painful to call than to process the price match at a store after the fact

I bought my new 2016 Spectre x360 13-w013dx with i7 8gb 256gb on black friday. So about 4 weeks ago. About 2 weeks after having the lap top I went to turn it on after having it off for probably about a week. It would not turn on at all. I plugged it in and it turned on fine. When it turned on I realized battery said 1% and charging. I thought that was very strange and swore I left it with 100% or close to 100% a week ago. I just figured I must have not actually turned it off or be mistaken that I left it with low charge.
I shrugged it off, but then again today turned it on again after being off for a little over a week and it had 0% charge left. This time I know for sure I left it with 100% battery. it drained 100% in less than 2 weeks. So immediately I knew something was very very wrong. I came upon this thread and read all 200+ posts.
So with that all in mind I was on BIOS 03, I checked after reading this. I have now updated myself to BIOS 11 using the HP Assistant tool. I knew that probably would not help since it did not really help anyone here, however I saw many other updates I was prompted for that I updated as well. Interesting that I have seen no one mention them here. I took a screen shot of them before updating and they were as follows....
Intel HD Graphics Driver
version 21.20.16.4526Bp2
Realtek High Definition Audio Driver
version 6.0.1.8000Ap37
HP Notebook System BIOS Update
version F.11Ap1
HP Wireless Button Driver
version 1.1.18.1Ap1
Intel Management Engine Interface Driver
version 11.6.0.1026Ap7
I installed all of those. Then after restarting and double checking 1 more time for updates to my surprise more updates appeared for the following....
Intel Chipset Installation Utility Driver
version 10.1.1.38Ap4
Intel Dynamic Platform and Thermal Framework Client Driver
version 8.2.11000.2996Ap4
Intel Integrated Sensor Solution Driver
version 3.1.0.3363Ap8
Intel Thunderbolt Controller Driver
version 16.2.52.250Ap5
Intel WLAN Driver for Microsoft Windows 10
version 19.20.3.4Pp1
I updated all of those successfully, then restarted, checked 1 last time and no more updates showing. So in summery I had ton of updates, and I checked for updates just 2 weeks ago. So it seems like most of those driver updates were released sometime with in the past 2 weeks. I would highly recommend everyone check for update. When you open HP Assitant right click on it, then select "run as administrator." Just to make sure it has full access to check for any possible update on your computer.
Personally I believe it might have to do with the Thunderbolt Controller Driver sucking power from the battery when off. The reason I believe that is because from my moderate IT background thats really the only component I can think of in a lap top that would still possibly be active when it is completely turned off. So I was really glad to see that updated.
Anyways I will test over the next 1-2 days by leaving the computer off for at least 12 hours or more to see if it drains any at all. Before it was draining between 0.5% and 0.75% per hour for me. Mainly what most other were reporting too. Hope everyone has a good Holiday! Will be following up with my results as soon as possible!

Good post and I hope it works. Having said that, from previous posts, you may remember that I sent my PC back to HP. The battery drain dropped from 0.5%/hr to 0.1%/hr after the repair. I have had no success in determining exactly what HP did to my machine. Even the Escalation Department in California could not break through and obtain the information from the repair facility in Indiana.
In any event, after reading this post I ran an update, and all the Intel mentionednupdates showed up as needing to be installed. So I wonder if these updates address the problem.
FYI, I created a restore point immediately after my PC was returned from HP...so far the few updates I have tried haven't impacted my lower drainage.
Have a great Holiday

Bad news everyone. The updates I listed above did nothing. I left it at 100% last night then turned off the computer. After about 8 hours of it being off, it now has 94%. So that is like 0.75% an hour. Very disappointing. Especially because I had issues with my last HP laptop after only 2 years. The trackpad completely failing to work. However because of this beautiful lap top I decided to give them 1 more chance thinking they improved. Definitely a big mistake!
I must say I am at least happy I am still in the return period, which I might do if HP has not issued a fix by first week in January. Anyone who bought anything from Best Buy between October 30th and December 31st has a return policy up to January 15th. Since they raised my status to Elite, I have until January 30th.
My only 2 dillemmas is a love this lap top and wish I did not have to return it. My second dilemma being that I don't know what to return it for. I want another laptop with a great display, with a premium build quality, with a i7, with at least 8gb, with a Solid State Drive, and with at least one thunderbolt 3 port. It seems laptops that have all those things are very limited. The laptops that have all those are hundreds more 😕

As we can all see, HP is avoiding this thread.
I have not seen any further communication nor joining the conversation.
This is supposed to be a premium line laptop more like something else.
A battery should not have such a high discharge rate when it is off.
this will use up the charge discharge cycle. It should be in the 1% after many hours. not 5-8% in a few hours.
Anyone stating this is normal hasn't used many laptops.

I bought mine few weeks ago from Best Buy (i7, 512GB, 16GB Ram, model 13-w023dx. Like with everyone else here, my laptop is experiencing a battery drain between 0.5-1% per hour while supposedly shut down. I have applied all available BIOS and firmware updates, but none is affecting the battery drain issue. Haven't tried the Sphinx fix yet though.
For the time being I can live with the issue, otherwise this is a great laptop. But the problem seems to be very common with this model, I'd expect HP to come up with a fix rather sooner than later. But so far nothing 😞

I was in the same boat with a love for the features of the machine and disappointed with the battery issue. I have the same specs but model 13-w030ca . I'm pretty sure that it's the same configuration with a US market model number. I'm in Canada. I applied the Sphinx update and it didn't seem to make much more than an incremental difference. However after a few discharge/charge cycles, it loses as little as 3% per day. So try the update. You need to follow the instructions carefully about Administrators rights. It took two tries to for me get the correct firmware response.
