windows 10 is such a pain..

I install edthe samsung driver, but it keeps defaulting back to the 2006 MS driver.

I don't want to download other software to force it to install. i wonder if there is around this..

.. wait is thsi supposed to just update the Storage Controller?  or the Disk Drive driver as well?

It updates my storage controller in device manager, but under disk drive it uses MS 2006 driver

That's odd, the driver sticks like glue here. You don't have to download any software to force it to install, just use device manager and install it through the library.

I got the Storage Controller to update.

Is the Drive supposed to update as well? Under Disk Drives?

@op1001 No the disk drive driver isn't updated, mine is still using generic microsoft driver from 2006. What numbers are you getting in CrystalDiskMark and ATTO? With the newest samsung drivers im seeing 3.1gb/s read and 1.3gb/s write 😄

I have the other drive mentioned above

I am seeing 1590 and 301 .. VLV model... 256gb

with the update and without .

If i decide to keep this notebook i'll get better a 512gb soon though ... i need more space

@op1001 Ok, that sucks.. seems like we can conclude that only users with disk model MZVLW will get the speed boost using samsungs own drivers. Im still pretty amazed by the fact that a single driver can boost disk performance to this degree.. i mean, it's pretty much 960 pro read speeds and 950 pro write speeds 🙂

I had shut off the laptop at 1253pm eastern at 90%

Turned it on at 2:35pm estern and the laptop was at 88%

2% in 2 hours that is kind of horrible .

Thats weird, it's just a driver, not a firmware.. the driver should only affect performance while the system is on. Anyways, just roll back to the generic ms driver, problem solved 😉 For me the latest drivers gave the biggest improvements, but i also noticed faster battery drop when i used it. I've just rolled back to the generic driver myself to check if the battery usage are just in my head or if it's actually real.. did a benchmark and noticed something strange, i still get 3000mb/s read and 1300mb/s write, this makes me wonder.. i clearly remember running a ssd benchmark when i first got the machine and i could swear that the numbers was nowhere near what im getting now. I've also checked dozens of reviews from all over the world and have yet to see higher speeds than 1700mb/s read and 600mb/s write, including one from my country which got the computer from the same store that i did.

Not really sure whats going on here, but i've ruled out errors in the benchmark since i've tested several and they all give me about the same result. I've double checked that the right driver is installed and i haven't made any changes to my drivers/firmware other than trying out the samsung nvme driver and flashing the sphinx fix.

One thing I have noticed after installing the dec 16 NVMe driver, and I'm yet to test this at higher battery capacities is the reduction of my 2% battery loss over any span of OFF time to 1%.

This was observed at 30% battery though so once it's charged up I'll report back... Slowly chipping away at the percentages.

I downloaded and installed the items recommended in this post about a month ago.

And it works. The battery drains is is as expected. When the device is off there is no battery drain.
