Missing ODD boot option in BIOS:
Video BIOS Revision INTEL 1625
HP Compaq 6730b; notebook serial number [Personal Information Removed]
Nice machine and a gift from a friend going suicidal because the esteemed HP-comrades forgot about its ODD.
The above BIOS has no ODD boot option !!! Please advise how to overcome this... disgrace.

Yes, this did it: change to IDE in the Bios and than it can boot from the "upgrade bay".
But Kinel may be wrongly assuming that the origin of the "upgrade bay" is known to Messrs. Helvet Paccard. Let's be kind to them and rather assume that "upgrade bay" is obtained by a random generator for confusing terms.

Hi,
Could "ODD" be HDD? Could you have/get a picture of the error by any chance?

No, hard disk drive, or HDD, is not the same thing as optical disk drive - ODD: the booting option that is missing in the BIOS. The said Bios' options are:
- Boot from hrd disk
- boot from upgrade bay
- boot from network
Anyone out there who can clarify what this "upgrade bay" means and what is it good for? No?
On the up-side, the thing thinks that a flash drive is an "USB hard drive" when a flash is inserted. It suddenly appeared as a Bios option.
And this was it: I could install a wastly-superior Linux distribution that has a proper video driver; and one can easily read letters on the screen. Linux is the future, comrades, make no mistake... wait! my friend (no longer suicidal) wants now his HP laptop back 😞

I believe that the upgrade bay is when the optical drive is replaced by a hdd caddy. Means it's most likely a renamed optical drive option.

Why would one want to replace a working optical disk drive with some hard disk drive caddy (a box-like enclosure for mounting a (second?) hard disk)? And why would this be an upgrade, and not a downgrade of the computer? O, holy Helwert Pakkard, please help if you come again to this planet!
