I have 2 Presario CQ61-319WM lap tops.  When I try to boot one of the computers, I get a black screen.  The fan starts and the LED by the Caps Lock and Num Lock fash on, then goes off for 3-4 seconds, flashes on, then off for 3-4 seconds, and continues this pattern indefinitely.  The wireless internet light next to the power key remains red in color.

I press and hold the power button until it powers off.  I have tried the following:

Remove power cord, remove battery, hold power button for 15 seconds, insert power cord press power button and get the same result.

Unplug memory sticks, reinsert them, reboot, same result.

Replace memory sticks with those from other Pressario CQ61-319WM that I own, reboot, same resut

Replace hard drive with the one from the other Presario CQ61-319WM that I own, reboot, same result.

Hold Windows key and B key down, press power key for 3 seconds, same result.

I don't have a cable to connect to an external monitor and at this point, I don't know if it's worth the effort to swap monitors with the other lap top.

I don't know what else to try.

Thank you for any help you can offer.

Hello sr031051.

Thank you for posting on the HP Forums. I understand the computer does not start properly. I apologize for the delayed response, but I will do my best to shed some light on this hardware issue.

You indicated on another thread that the Cap Locks key flashes two times, is this correct? If so, it reveals a BIOS corruption error. As the error indicates, the BIOS iscorrupt. To troubleshoot the issue properly, please try all the steps, in order, in this document: Computer Does Not Start and the LEDs Blink or the Computer Beeps

If you follow these steps, the issue should be resolved. However, if the issue remains, the computer hardware is not working properly. For additional assistance, please contact HP Phone Support. This website will allow you to locate the correct contact number, based on your region: Contact HP Worldwide

Please provide your troubleshooting results. If you found the information I provided useful, please mark this post with an Accepted Solution and Kudos. Doing this will allow other users to have an easier time locating this information.

Again, thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!

Thank you for the information. I do apologize for the situation. I will bring an alternate suggestion to the tablet:

1. Obtain a secondary monitor and plug it into the computer. See whether or not the computer can load on the monitor.

2. If so, update the BIOS. Information on how to do this is here: Updating the BIOS

If not, than this cannot be done. If so, I would bring the computer to a local repair shop. They will be able to do a thorough assessment of the laptop.

In my personal opinion, I would replace the hard drive before anything else. This error occurs when the BIOS is unable to correctly write to the hardware. Replacing the hard drive with the same or similar model could be beneficial.

Again, please mark this post with a Kudos if you found it useful. I will continue to assist you in any way I can!
