Looking for a little advice on how to fix my son's computer.  When he turns it on it seems to be a bluish/black screen and a clicking noise is heard. After a short while the clicking stops and a screen comes on  that states "Boot Device Not Found".  If you could please help me fix this problem I would appreciate it.  Thanks

Hello, @Reneekneip

Welcome to the HP Forums.

I see that you're looking to fix your son's computer. That when it's turned on there is a blue/black screen and clicking sound, this will eventually display boot device not found. I will try to assist you with this.

Are you working with a notebook or desktop? Could you please provide the model and product numbers.

What operating system is currently installed?

The clicking sound is slightly worrisome. The way you've describe the issue, it could mean there's a mechanical issue with the hard drive and it may need replacing.

I'd recommend start with this document: Testing a Hard Disk from the BIOS. It will allow you to test the hard drive to see if it does need replacing.

I will also provide this document: Resolve Boot Device not Found Error Message. It covers the troubleshooting steps for the error message you're getting.

Let me know how this goes for you.
Thank you for posting on the HP Forums.

I worked on behalf of HP.
