Been seaching for hours trying to find a solution. I have a hp dv7-1157cl , I tried many solutions that people have come up with. have uninstalled and reinstalled quickplay several times did all updates that i could find...version now shows 3.7(6310). in the past when i have had this problem with a new BD that i bought, I checked for update did it and usually plays fine. But Just purchased The Cure Trilogy concert on Blu ray and the drive won't even recognize that it's there. I put in Termanator Salvation and plays fine as well as all the other blue ray discs I have. so I am under the assumption that it has something to do with the software somewhere. The disc is not scratched and looks to be perfect it's just acting as if it can't read it. Even if I go to computer and see the drive it is showing no disc inserted.
I'm running vista 64bit service pack2
Please help.

Do you have the ability to try the Blu-ray disk in a STB (set top box) Blu-ray player attached to a TV? Download Imgburn and see if it can read the disk. Have you checked for firmware updates for your drive?

I do not have the ability to check it at home in a set top but was going to stop by a retail store and see if it works in one on my way home. I searched for hours last night trying to see if there was a firmware update available but could not find one. maybe i was just looking in the wrong places?
the drive i have is a optiarc BD ROM BC-5500S ATA drive

This link has the latest firmware for your drive.

Be sure that you update Quckplay if you have that product. The DVD screen has access to updates.

This update says "Also note that our firmware updates are not compatible with those provided by OEM vendors (Sony Optiarc drives pre-installed by the PC manufacturers e.g. HP, Dell, Fujitsu Siemens Computers, Apple etc.). You may damage your drive if you flash it with incompatible firmware."
And I don't want this to destroy my drive since it was provided by OEM hp pre-installed by the manufacture have you or someone else done this with no problems. I can play all my other blu ray discs other than this one. and it will play in a set top box so i know it is not the disc.

problem still not resolved i won't do the affore mentioned firmware since it will not work with oem installed drives. Hp is aware of the problem and working on an update and it should be avail soon (or so they say) but it's odd that it won't work on the power dvd 9 that i downloaded and it's not because it is a trial version because my other blu rays will play in that program also.

A lot of Blu-ray players get firmware updates. My Panasonic STB has been updated four times in the last year and some of the updates are specific to some Blu-ray releases not being playable.

I was wondering if you were still having this problem, because I am too. I have the exact same computer and have been able to play all the dvds until Friday when I purchased the movie "New Moon". I did notice that the movie is a "dual layer".
If you have been able to fix it can you tell me how, I have searched all over the internet and done so many stupid updates and it still won't work!!! It is driving me insane!! PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!

On my mothers dv7 it just kept prompting me to update the Quick Play software and nothing would play, not even the one from before. It just went around in circles.
Update the BIOS to the latest version and restart. Go to auto play in the control panel and make sure "Quick Play" is ticked off for Blu-rays. Eject manually on the side of the DVD drawer and load your movie. Allow Quick Play to start and if it prompts you that it needs and update, select yes. After updating the BIOS the vicious circle finally stopped. Hopefully your movie will play.
This has worked for me except for one movie. Ice Age 3. This movie loads and then I get a red screen telling me that the Blu-ray player needs an update and to go to www.cyberlink.com/bdupdate in which it informs me that Cyberlink can't identify my software and to enter my name and e-mail address. ??????????
Incidentally, most Blu-ray movies are dual layer. 25 Gb for single and 50 Gb for dual.
