The blue charge light on my DV6000 is blinking rapidly but the machine does not charge the battery or power up. What is broken?

Will it power up with the battery removed?

A continuous blink of the power led usually means the power adapter is supplying insufficient power.

See "table of sample blink codes"

No, it does not. With or without batter, same result.

I have even had the socket replaced by a repair shop.

Thanks!

is it possible to measure the power supply, or do I take the chance and buy a new one?

HP Recommended

You can use a voltmeter, but this is not always a good indication if it is bad.

I took the laptop to a different repair shop who diagnosed a blown motherboard. They even showed me the burnt insulation between the mobo and the case. repair cost is estimated at £ 330, which is unlikely to be cost effective.

Thanks everybody for your suggestions.
