Hi there I have HP model G6-2284CA with Windows 8 and my bluetooth has stopped working.
The generic bluetooth device is no longer in my device manager.
I've tried downloading different drivers from the HP site for my model but they do not do anything.
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling drivers but that has also not fixed anything.
This could be due to updating drivers for my wireless card through Windows Update recently. That seems to be around the time that it stopped working. I need bluetooth to use my wireless mouse for work.
Any suggestions?

Hi lost-at-sea,
I hope you had a fantastic weekend.
I understand that the Windows troubleshooter, tells you there is an issue with the Bluetooth driver, but you are unable to install an updated driver.
Lets try this,
open device manager and uninstall the Bluetooth driver
now scan for hardware changes, this should install the updated driver.
Here is a document on Fixing Bluetooth Problems, that may help.

Hi lost-at-sea,
Welcome to the HP forum, I hope you have a pleasant experience.
I understand that after updating the network driver you no longer have Bluetooth. Here is a link to the software and driver page for you system. HP Pavilion g6-2284ca Notebook PC Drivers. Please click on Network, to display a driver list. You will also find the updated Bluetooth driver for your system. Please select the correct one and download and install. The installation should find the device and install the drivers. Please let me know the result.

I've tried just about all of the bluetooth drivers on that page and it hasn't helped.
The software seems to be on the computer, maybe it's an issue the bluetooth adapter itself?
It should show up in the Windows device manager right? There's no entry for it anymore.
bttray.exe is set up to start when the computer starts up but it doesn't show up in the system tray anymore either though the executable file is in the programs folder.

Hi lost-at-sea,
Thank you for your response.
If you believe it may be the Bluletooth adapter, I would run the F2 diagnostic to test the hardware. On startup press F2 approximately once every second, this should bring you to a diagnostic screen. Here is a document to assist you with this process. About UEFI and the Startup Menu
With Windows 8,there is a built in troubleshooter, you can also utilize to help resolve issues.
Press the Windows key +C to open charms
Type troubleshoot Bluetooth in the search bar and follow the prompts.
Please let me know the outcome.

The diagnostic test completed successfully.
Troubleshooting through Windows says there's a problem with the Ralink Bluetooth Driver and tries to install a new one but it fails.
As I mentioned previously, I've tried downloading different Bluetooth drivers and installing them without success.

When I open the Device Manager I don't see an entry for Bluetooth.
I uninstalled my Ralink WiFi adapter driver and when it scanned for changes it found my Bluetooth device and installed a new driver.
Thanks for your help!
