Bluetooth stopped wotking on Pavilion DM4

I have an HP Pavilion dm4-1150ea running Windows 7 64bit.

I bought a bluetooth audio receiver and it paired with the laptop and installed a driver. I was able to stream audio to the receiver but when I closed the laptop and later opened it, it stopped working.

I looked in device manager and the bloetooth radios were no longer there and there were no bluetooth devices under Network Adapters. They had been there previously.

I rebooted a few times and it still didn't work. I got it to work once and it coincided with putting the power lead in. However, it didn't work for long.

HP Wireless Assistant says that Bluetooth is disabled in Device Manager.

I tried downloading the latest bluetooth driver from the HP site but it won't install because bluetooth isn't running.

At some point I got a message saying that a USB device had failed. I can see a warning icon on an "Unknown Device" in the USB Controllers section of Device Manager.

I tried to do a system restore but that failed because it couldn't get access to a file.

Any ideas how I can get blue tooth working again?

You will need to identify the specific brand and model of bluetooth device that is installed in your notebook.

Go into the Device manager. Identify the unknown device with its PCI\VEN character string. See the following image. It is an example of how it can be done with any device in the device manager. Right-click the device and select properties to invoke the window. Post the value here in your thread.

Hi,

The unknown device has a hardware id of USB\UNKNOWN (it's in the USB constrollers section).

All the bluetooth devices have disappeared from the device manager.

I have done another reboot and the blue tooth is working at the moment so the devices are back on the device manager.

These are the hardware ids:

Bluetooth device (personal area network)

Bluetooth Peripheral Device (3 of these with warning flags)

I need the PCI\VEN character string as described n my first post. They enable us to completely identify the device. Once that is done, then I will search for the required driver.

The "Broadcom 4313 802.11b/g/n" device has 4 ids:

The bluetooth audio started working again without making any changes and has now been working for a few days without problems. I have subsequently updated the driver from your link and it all still works.

One more question, please...

My Bluetooth audio equipment supports apt-x but my built-in bluetooth only supports bluetooth 2.0.

If I want to take advantage of apt-x can I attach a bluetooth USB dongle? If so, is there a recommended one?

Would I need to disable the existing bluetooth device(s) before installing the new one? If so, which ones?
