hp 250 g3
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

After I upgraded windows 8.1 64 (preinstalled) to windows 10, my brightnes control keys (f1 and f2) started behaving in reverse. When I turn on my laptop with the charger plugged in the screen is dimmed (black). The only way to increase the brightness is to press f2 key, which should actually decrease the brightness. When I am on battery and then plug in the charger, the screen dims to the maximum and I have to press the f2 key instead of f3 to increase the brightness. In other words, my f2 and f3 brightness keys are reversed, f2 increases and f3 decreases the brightness (f2 should decrease and f3 increase the brightness).

I am having this same problem.  On mine, when I hit 100 for the dimness level it goes completely black.  I have no idea how to change it back.

I had also the same problem. So I uninstalled the current intel graphics driver and installed the latest driver of windows 8.1. It worked for me. If you have also intel graphics adapter then install this.

sp69589.

You can download this from hp drivesr download page by selecting your operating system to windows 8.1. Thanks

I have a similar problem with my HP 15 r160SA notebook PC.  Since upgrading to Windows 10 f2 increases the brightness and f3 diiminishes it.  If I do a restart the problem is corrected.  However if I then hibernate the computer the keys are again reversed.  Shutting down and then starting does not have the same effect as restarting - the keys are reversed.

I have tried installing different drivers for the Intel(R) HD Graphics adapter but whatever I do I always end up with driver 10.18.10.4252 dated 10 July 2015.  I wonder if this driver is not compatible with WIndows 10??

Although I can probably learn to live with this it is nevertheless rather annoying and a way of solving this would be much appreciated.

I think the problem is in the upgrade process dealing with drivers. We should probably do a clean install. When I uninstalled the graphics driver and installed it again, the problem of reversed buttons disappeared. There are still some bugs. For example, when my battery level is pretty low and I connect the charger, it says smthing like "01 min to ful charge". I think the only way to deal with all the bugs and inconveniences is new HP drivers supporting windows 10. Why we still dont have new windows 10 drivers for hp 250 g3?

The first time I tried this by using the HP provided download and install feature it didn't work - during the installation I was told that my computer didn't meet the spec for this driver.

However when I tried updating the driver from the device manager and pointing it to the SWSetup folder it found and successfully 'updated' the driver.

The problem now seems to have been solved and after shutdown, restarting and hibernating the brightness controls are doing what they are supposed to do.

Odd that a driver allegedly designed for Windows 10 does not work.

Many thanks for your help.

Look for windows 8.1 latest display driver > 'sp69589.exe'
Install it > Nothing will appear after install.

Go to Device manager > Display adapters > Intel HD Graphics: Update driver...

Choose Manual update [Option 2] > Choose from a list > Have disc...

Go to C:\SWSetup\SP69589\Graphics\103754.inf > OK

Only one appears: Intel(R) HD Graphics > Next

Wait for a while... until install pop-ups finish appearing...

Check Intel(R) HD Graphics "Driver" tab again.
If success, new display driver should be:
