I just got a new HP pavilion system, main reason being I need something that could handle decent gaming with minimal lag and also a machine for 3D modeling and animation, fortunately this particular one was within budget and has so far not disappointed me...

But I still really want to amp up that power, it currently running on a Intel i5-4210u at 1.7ghz-2.4ghz,and nvidia geforce 840m...so I was thinking, is it possible to change or upgrade that CPU or GPU or both to let's say an Intel i7 processor? And a higher nvidia graphics card?

Is it?

Hi
This is your product manual: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c04325153.pdf
Go through Page 26, 27
Your laptop CPU is integrated on to the board, if you're wanting to upgrade to i7 you've to look into buying new board & it's a costly affair.
The same rule applies to GPU also, though 840 NVIDIA is the top graphic card for this model.
Regards,
