Hello
I got a used Elitebook 8530p (GW682AV) running with a 2,4 Core 2 Duo P8600. Normally this would be enough CPU power, but for several reasons I need a faster CPU. And I do not want to buy a new laptop.
I had a look at some web-sites searching what's possible for that nice laptop and found out that the fastest CPU ever integrated in the Elitebook 8530p was a T9600 2,8 GHz.
Now to my question. Intel produced CPU's up to the Core 2 Duo T9900 which are using the same socket PGA478. Therefore normally that CPU's should work. But:
Do the latest BIOS of the Elitebook 8530p support them?
Every answeror hint is highly appreciated!
Thanks in advance.

Hi:
Below is the link to the 8530p Quickspecs document.
http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/13094_na/13094_na.pdf
The supported processors are listed on page 5.
Below is the link to the BIOS revision history.
I do not see any BIOS release notes that add support for other processors.

THANKS Paul!
What I’ve understood is that the highest officially supported CPU (Bios F20) is a Core 2 Duo Processor T9800 at 2.93 GHz, 6 MB L2 cache.
Going for a T9900 would be on my own risk. So I will have a look about the availability and the price.
Great support by HP. My next Laptop will be also a HP out of that experience. Thanks a lot!
Best regards

You're very welcome.
Yes, that is correct...a T9900 may work, but no guarantees.
It all depends on if the BIOS includes the microcode for the T9900, and we don't know if it does, or doesn't.
Best Regards,
Paul

I can confirm that the T9900 works great in the 8530w.
Tip: Use a small knife or similar to gently lever up the bezel above the heatsink on the left hand side if the heatsink asembly won't come loose after you undo the heatsinks for the cpu and graphics card.
