I currently have a Hp pavilion, dv2315nr with an AMD Turion (1.6 GHz, single core).

I'm trying to upgrade to an AMD Turion x2 (2.4GHz, dual core).

My question is if 1, the CPU I'm thinking about is even  compatable with my laptop, and 2, if my current CPU is even upgradable (In other words, I don' know if the current CPU is soldered on, or not)

Can someone help?

The processor is socketed and could be upgraded and the limit is a TL-64. That is an x2 and I am pretty sure yours is also a dual core processor, TL-52.

Frankly, I would not tempt fate and put anything in there which might make it run hotter. That model series is very prone to thermal breakdown and motherboard failure from the nVidia video chip.

If you have to do it, the processor is cheap but the laptop is difficult to disassemble. Here is the Service manual:

Manual

No matter which CPU is installed it will only take 2 gigs of RAM, which is going to limit any benefit you can get from a faster processor. A modest sized SSD like say a 120 gig plus Windows 7 instead of Vista would be the best upgrade I think.
