HP ENVY x360 - 15m-ds0011dx
Microsoft Windows 11

I did the upgrade from Windows 10 to Windows 11. My camera no longer appears to exist or be accessible through any route. I tried to trouble shoot this with Microsoft however they stated HP needs to address. For further clarification, the camera is a part of the laptop - so it should be present and available to select easily.

Looking for help to get back up and running.

Thank you!

There are many people reporting the same issue with W11 and drivers. Suggest uninstalling camera driver and use the Windows 10 driver from HP.

I did a quick check on your model, there is no W11 drivers available, so officially, HP doesn't support W11 on that series.

I do realize that you are a volunteer and not HP employee, but Can you say if we might have an ETA for this?
I really need my mic and camera. I have HP pavilion 15 gaming (ec0013dx).

Also, can't uninstall the driver because it doesn't appear in the device manager as well
here's a link to the issue and things I tried to do

I don't know, have no access to that info. If the laptop is more than a few years old, I wouldn't hold my breath.

Personally, I wouldn't run Windows 11 on those series that have driver issues. W10 will be supported for another 5 years, so there is no need to rush to W11, IMO.

There are ways to find hidden devices in Windows, or run a driver from it's executable, but it's late here and don't have the time to delve into it.

I did not know there were driver issues earlier. I had used windows 11 before, from the beta preview to the stable one, switched to linux in between and decided to come back to windows due to software being unavailable on linux. I thought to clean install 11, so that it would save me trouble of upgrading later, but that caused even greater problems.
The laptop is around 16 months old from when i bought from a local store here.
You can respond when you have free time. Good night

As I said earlier, we've seen this a few times lately, but I don't know of a fix. I did search and found a pretty good video on it here- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iw2Gm2sHhyI  If it works for you, let us know which step and we can inform others.

tried it doing twice, and no, it didn't work.
I was actually hopeful when the sfc /scannow showed windows found corrupt files and repaired them, but cam is still gone.
I hope HP gives an update fixing this soon.
