Paul, thank you as I appreciate you having responded to my post. I was successful in finding my TPM 1.2 and enabling it in my device manager. It was under "hidden devices" like buried treasure. :smileyfrustrated So, it is unavoidable, no Professional either Ultimate or Enterprise. They make it easy, don't they!

You're very welcome.
No, they don't.
I'm glad M$ got rid of all the various versions in W8, W8.1 and W10. It is Home or Pro and W8, 8.1 and W10 Pro do have support for Bitlocker.
For Vista and W7, you need Ultimate or Enterprise.

Hi, Moira:
Unfortunately not.
The W7 anytime upgrade is no longer available.

You would have to purchase W7 Ultimate if you can still get it.

You're very welcome, Moira.
If you have a HP business class notebook, perhaps you can use the HP drive encryption software, which is part of the protect tools security manager suite, or the client security manager software suite.
That software would be found on the support page for selected business model notebooks.
You can find examples of this at the link below on this model's support page under the security section.
You can be running W7 Pro for this to work.
