The service guide states only 2GB maximum installed memory.
Changing SATA from IDE to AHCI via regedits
For safety's sake make the registry edits by hand instead of downloading the script.

Your notebook does use SATA hard disks so you can upgrade to an SSD. You can change from IDE emulation to AHCI via registry edits.
I own an older Toshiba with an AMD CPU. The Tosh does not have an option in the BIOS to change from IDE emulation to AHCI. I installed a 60GB OCZ SSD. It really upgraded the performance of the notebook. I have a 13 year old who uses it and I have never heard a complaint about it. 🙂

Thanks for the reply. How can I go about changing from IDE emulation to AHCI via registry edits, please advise?
I'm also currently looking into a ram upgrade. How do I find out what the largest and type it supports is?the computer runs a little hot and is currently running wins 8.1 consumer preview. Is there a specific os or custom build that would recommend that can make it as efficient as possible?
Thanks
