Hi:
There are two Intel driver links to choose from on your notebook's support page.
I explored the driver folder of this driver file from your notebook's support and driver page, and this is the correct driver to use.
This package provides the driver that enables the Intel High-Definition (HD) Graphics in supported notebook models that are running a supported operating system. If high-definition multimedia interface (HDMI) video output is supported, this package also installs the HDMI Audio Driver.
File name: sp69589.exe
The hardware ID for the Intel graphics adapter in your notebook should be one of these...
;=====================================================================
; Windows 8.1 Install
;=====================================================================
[IntelGfx.NTamd64.6.3]
%iVLVGMT0% = iVLV2M_w81, PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_0F31&SUBSYS_220F103C
%iVLVGMT0% = iVLV2M_w81, PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_0F31&SUBSYS_2213103C
%iVLVGMT0% = iVLV2M_w81, PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_0F31&SUBSYS_2210103C
%iVLVGMT0% = iVLV2M_w81, PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_0F31&SUBSYS_2214103C
You should be seeing an Intel HD graphics device in place of the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter, and unless you can get that graphics driver to install you will not be able to adjust the brightness of the screen.
Is the above driver does not install the Intel graphics adapter automatically, try manually installing the driver by browsing to the driver folder that is created after you run the above file.
Confirm that the hardware ID for the Intel graphics adapter matches one of the above from the driver setup information file I posted.
To find the hardware ID, go to the device manager, click on the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter.
Then click on the Details tab at the top of the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter window.
Now you should see a Property drop down list and it is defaulted to Device Description.
Drop down on that list and select the 3rd item (Hardware ID's).
Confirm that the hardware ID you see there is one of those listed that I posted.

Hi:
You need to install the Intel HD graphics driver for the Intel graphics.
I am surprised the nVidia graphics adapter installed.
Normally you get an error that you must install the Intel graphics driver first before installing the nvidia driver when you go to install the nvidia driver.
The only problem is...there is no W8.1 32 bit Intel graphics driver for your model.
Did you try the graphics driver from Intel? The first file listed is the auto install file.

I have missclicked, sorry, I am running Windows 8.1 64bit. I downloaded and installed the Intel Graphics drivers from here http://support.hp.com/bg-en/drivers/selfservice/HP-15-r200-Notebook-PC-series/7486447/model/7729219
but it doesn't seem to do anything.

THANK YOU! You are a life saver! This fixed my brigthness issue aswell as video playback. The issue was that the file was not installing the drivers and I had to do it manually. Thank you once again! I spent too much time on this the past 2 days.
