No error messages.

 

I recently took my laptop apart for cleaning of the keyboard (someone spilled a bit of a drink on it).  When the spill occurred I immediately turned off the laptop, took out the battery, and set it face down on a towel so any excess moisture could drain out.  

 

When I got it apart, there didn't seem to be any significant moisture damage to the MOBO, it was mostly isolated to the keyboard and I was able to clean it up without incident, taking cares to discharge any static as I worked.

 

Got it all put back together, but upon first boot it hung at the windows loading screen.  Tried to go into recovery mode, and it hung at the loading screen.  Tried to get into the BIOS, and it froze after opening the BIOS screen (clock was still ticking but keyboard unresponsive and I couldn't navigate the menus).  I even tried accessing the BIOS recovery/update by holding Win+B while booting and even that hung up and wouldn't move.

 

Totally at a loss, I can't find a problem this extensive on the forums.  People either can't boot, can't access BIOS, or something like that but not all of the above.  Out of warranty now and I can't afford to be gouged by the computer repair man just yet if there's a chance I can fix it.

Hello martialennans.  I understand you're unable to get the notebook to boot.

Have you tried performing a hard reset?  This drains all power from the notebook and forced the hardware to reinitialize.  Here are the steps.

  1. Ensure the notebook is powered down.
  2. Remove the battery and AC power.
  3. Press and hold the power button for 15-20 seconds three times.
  4. Replace battery and AC power.
  5. Attempt to boot notebook.


Unfortunately there are not many steps that any experts will be able to offer you for this sort of issue.  This sort of problem is best diagnosed hands on and in person. It seems that the motherboard or other components were likely damaged by the liquid in your case.  I suggest taking it to a local computer repair shop.  Many will diagnose the problem for you while you're in the store.  This would be the quickest method.

If you'd like to speak with HP Support about the issue or to inquire about a repair you can give them a call.  For US/Canadian customer the number is 1-800-474-6836.  If you're in another area you'll need to visit HP Support Worldwide to get your region's contact information.

TRY MY METHOD ONCE

 

1 RESTART YOUR COMPUTER

2 PRESS ESC KEY TO ENTER IN BIOS SETUP

3 THEIR YOU CAN SEE SYSTEM CONFIGURATION

4 SELT THAT AND YOU CAN SEE BOOT OPTIONS

5 PRESS ENTER AFTER SELECTING BOOT OPTIONS

6 NOW YOU CAN SEE BOOT ORDER

7 SLECT YOUR SOURCE

8 MAKE IT COME TOP OF THE BOOT ODER MENU( USE F5 OR F6 TO CHANGE THE BOOT ORDER)

9 PRESS F10 TO SAVE AND EXIT

 

 

 

IF IT CANT SOLVE

 

 

TRY THIS   remove the CMOS battery inside your laptop,after tht reinsert it.RESTART AFTER FEW SECONDS

I've tried resetting the CMOS and when I get into the BIOS screen the keyboard becomes unresponsive and I can't do anything.  I can't even hit esc/f10 to get out of the BIOS.

No that didn't help either.  They keyboard works, as I wouldn't be able to get into the BIOS if I couldn't press the keys.  Once in there it just freezes though and I can't type anything else.  The system clock shows running but I can't exit or change any of the menus.

I did try hard reset, and I eventually had a computer shop look at it they agree that it's probably the motherboard. Thanks for the post.
