Elitebook 8530w
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Hello, I have an Elitebook 8530w. I am trying to factory reset this for a new user. I have encountered a few issues attempting this, and would like some help. i eventually would like to get windows 10 that's being offered but the system is having trouble getting it installed after the download, im guessing this was due to the upgrade to windows 7 and some files now missing for the current OS.  This is what I know  and have tried thus far:

system originally came with windows vista, but currently runs windows 7 professional

no system install disk came with the elitebook

it seems through the upgrade the "recovery manager" and recovery partition drives have all been removed.

HP has indicated there is no "windows vista install disk " they can send out to factory reset.

i have attempted system recovery from the OS and there is no recovery manager, only system restore. The system restore option lets me restore to a certain point, all of which are in the past few weeks, no option for factory settings. the other option it gives me is to system restore to the factory defaults, but requires a system install disk. My XP professional disk does not seem to be an acceptable install disk. no luck using the OS to restore to factory settings.

f11 during startup does nothing

repeated depressing of F10 during startup take me to the BIOS menu, you can also get to this menu by pressing ESC during startup and then pressing F10 to elect the bios menu.

USB legacy support is enabled in the BIOS

and the cdrom is in the boot priority options, though its 4th on the list, i doubt moving it up in priority would fix the issue, but im not sure.  Id be more than happy to answer any other questions that might help me overcome this issue. Basically because of the update to win 7 pro, HP cant help it seems due to the upgrade to win 7 Pro.

I have called HP and followed several manuals on how to restore the factory settings with no progress

Any and all help would be appreciated , many thanks upfront!

With a notebook model as far removed from the current generation as yours, recovering it to factory defaults without the recovery partition or the recovery disk set will not be possible.

HP Elitebooks were delivered with an HP recovery media creator that allowed the owner to create one copy of recovery media.

F11 will not work without a recovery partition that has not been modified.

You can purchase a recovery disk set from the following HP Partner.

OK, thank you for looking at my situation. I will look in into it and see if its worth the money. If i own a copy of XP pro , shouldnt i be able to load that operating system onto the laptop? Maybe not, win 7 may not let me downgrade.... thanks again.
