Hello people, i had this notebook for a while.. it's been 4 months, the model is g4 2049tx and has ralink bluetooth 3.0 adapter from what i have seen in the sys info. It's written as, adapter name - ralink motorola bc8 bluetooth 3.0+ HS Adapter. The bus type is given as USB.
Now, don't provide me any links to download the driver from the g4 page. I had already done that and couldn't find the correct bluetooth driver for my ralink adapter. I could see a bunch of other drivers such as qualcomm atheros 4.0 , broadcom 4.0 and intel BT but not the one i supposedly needed.
As for my device manager, it doesn't show me any missing drivers for my bluetooth.. under the bluetooth there are 2 things shown, microsoft bt enumerator and generic bt adapter. Okay, so i thought the microsoft drivers are already working and bt should also perform.. but from what i see, i can't transfer files in here to other devices.
I want to know 2 things now, how can i make bluetooth work in my notebook with the default drivers or how can i download the correct and working driver for my ralink bt 3.0 adapter.
Thanks in regards,
Sunny

What is the installed operating system?
Here is a link to the web support portal for your notebook. Check in the Drivers & Downloads section for available drivers for the apropriate operating system installed in your notebok PC.
Go into the Device Manager and open the Bluetooth radio device section. click on the Bluetooth device and then right click it and select properties. Now use the hardware ids tab as seen in the second image below to determine exactly what is installed in your notebook. Post the PCI\VEN information here.
There is a driver for the Railink/Motorola bluetooth adapter here. It is compatible with all Windows operating systems.
Once we determine which device is installed in your notebook you can install the proper driver.
It sounds as if you are having difficulty pairing with other devices. That is a critical part of sharing or pushing files to other devices.
Best regards,
erico

OS is windows 8 64-bit
Hi erico, here's a pic of my device manager.. has a generic bluetooth adapter and works with microsoft driver.
I opened the hardware id tab for the generic adapter
Here's are few screens showing the bluetooth hardware i have in my laptop
I wish to tell u that the send and receive a file options are seen when i right-click and browse the list from the bluetooth notification icon. The problems i have so far seen are, when i click on receive a file.. my phone doesn't connect to my laptop even though it shows the name. When i click on send a file, nothing is displayed in the white box and the only thing i can do is cancel it.
When i click on add a bluetooth device, it fails to find devices and tells me no devices are found. When i check the wireless tab, i can only see my wifi which can be turned on or off and there is no bluetooth option. My friend's laptop has the option for bluetooth to be turned on or off under wireless, but it's not the same pavilion g4 as mine. It's a sleekbook with win 8 64-bit pre-installed.
I have seen the link to the driver that you provided. It matches the hardware device in my laptop but the driver is compatible only with windows 7.

Try uminstalling the the windows 7 driver and then reinstalling it in compatibility mode for Windows 8.
You don't have much choice since Motorola\Ralink has not produced a driver for Windows 8 for this device.
There is a discussion at Microsoft Forum regarding this same issue.

erico

I did not install that win 7 driver at all. Infact i havn't touched any bluetooth drivers yet.
So Erico, u mean i should download that win 7 driver and install with win 8 compatibilty mode enabled and then see what happens?

Hi erico, i installed the win 7 driver which u provided and it went smooth. But then the icon in notification area disappears upon restart and can't bring it back. Even though i click on my bluetooth icon in start menu, nothing happens.
The icon in notification area had few options and settings but i haven't tested whether file transfer worked or not. I also happen to not be able to see the bluetooth on/off in windows 8 pc settings menu under wireless option.

Did you read through the discussion in the thread at Microsoft Forum?
It really seems like you will have to either wait for a driver to be produced by Morotola\Ralink or downgrade to Windows 7 if Bluetooth is that important to You. You will have to consider your priorities in terms of bluetooth. I took a look at the currently available bluetooth dongles and have not seen one certified for Windows 8 as of this date.
Best regards,
erico

You are right erico... all i can do is either revert back to using windows 7 or calmly wait for ralink motorola to release a new windows 8 driver for my piece of hardware. I don't want to go back to win 7 because right now win 8 is really good and it's officially activated too, since i paid a lot for the license.
The best possible thing i can do to make my bluetooth work asap is change the module possibly to broadcom by paying a little more at the service center. I heard few ppl got it done that way, but once again i'm not gonna be doing this atleast for now. I will still have the ralink module and wait for it to release win 8 compatible driver.
In that microsoft discussion, one person said he got bluetooth to work ... especially sending and receiving files, while other devices detect the laptop.. on a fresh install of windows 8 and let microsoft drivers do the work. So, he said the generic bluetooth adapter worked fine and that he needn't had to download any more specific drivers. It's nearly the same in my case, I got this laptop with pre-installed dos and then I have installed windows 8, a fresh copy over dos.
I have exactly the same options using the generic adapter, while send and receive a file still don't work. I shall clearly wait for it to release windows 8 drivers in the near future.
PS: I'm not worried about BT right now, i'm gonna pass on until I require it for the next time.
