Hello jabana. I understand you are seeing a message that the hardware radio is switched off. I will do my best to assist you! To start troubleshooting, please follow the suggested steps on this Microsoft document.

If the issue is not resolved, I would uninstall your wireless adapter from Device Manager. Afterward, restart the computer, and it will try to install the proper driver. If it does not, locate the driver online. Download and install it after you locate it.

Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns. I'm only here to help!

Keep in mind, when you remove your wireless adapter, you LOSE any wireless networks that had been configured on that adapter.

For example let's say you have a home network called "MyHome" and you used that wireless adapter to connect to it, and you configured the security etc.   All that security configuration is removed when you remove the adapter.

This is especially problematic when you have a corporate laptop with preconfigured wireless network security loaded for invisible wireless networks.  Suddenly, your corporate wi-fi is no longer connectable because you don't have the necessary security configuration.  Just keep that in mind.

The hardware radio switch that I was looking for is the f12 key.  I don't know why it suddenly started working. I appoligize for not closing this problem. Please forgiveme - I promise to do better next time.

Chris' comment concerning security is appreciated. Yet, my computer is a standalone device. It is not connected to any corporate network.  I have attempted unsuccessfully all related HP Forum comments to my "hardware radio switch off" problem.  Any further suggestion are appreciated, even if that means returning the computer again to HP to find and fix possibly another keyboard hardware problem.  Thank you for the suggestions.

The Microsoft Document suggestion to enable the HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook "hardware radio switch off" was followed.  The Power Management properties listed the option enable to "allow the computer to turn off device to save power" as suggested.  No problem correction was found in the Microsoft Document.  The adapter driver uninstallation procedure was reviewed.  It appeared to require Microsoft Administrator Permissions not available to an end user as myself.  The HP Forum attempted help is appreciated. Thank you. Yet the problem remains.

From the Start button, type 'Windows Mobility Center'. Turn the wireless on from the Wireless Network section.

Hi ezra33.

Thank you for your query.  I will strive to do my best to assist you!

I understand that you tried to update the bios, but could not.  Updating the BIOS. Here is a link to HP Pavilion dv6-6116tx Entertainment Notebook PC Drivers. There are 2 options for bios, try the first one. Have you tried running the Windows built in troubleshooter. Follow these steps:

a. press windows key +C to open charms

b. type in troubleshoot wireless and follow on screen prompts.

You could also run the HP Support Assistant, to aid in updates and resolving issues.  You may want to run the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI  to test the hardware. I hope this is helpful.
