PLEASE HELP!
I am unable to read a sandisk 8gb SDHC card. However, I have used this exact sd card in my computer to view pictures before and I have never had an issue with reading it. This time when I put it into my pc it doesnt pick it up at all. I went to settings, control panel and it only showed my Windows C drive and Recovery D drive. I did not have an option such as E or F like I usually do. I tried downloading a firmware update that hp online suggested for my specific pc, I downloaded it with no issues but I was unable to install it. Any suggestions would be much appreciated! Thank you so much for your time!
Sincerely,
Leona Adams

Welcome to HP Forums,
This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips,
Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out.
As I understand the SD card reader doesn't read or detect the SD Card,
Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:
Did you attempt to reinstall the drivers for your card reader?
Have you installed any recent updates that may have caused the issue? did you attempt a system restore?
While you respond to that, here are a few things I recommend you do:
Go into device manager and uninstall the card reader, it should be listed as IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers.
This will uninstall and reinstall the driver for the card reader.
-
Open Device Manager (Hold Windows + X key and select device manager)
-
Follow the instructions in the preceding procedure to uninstall the device.
-
If you are prompted to restart the computer, follow these steps:
- Plug in the device and then restart the computer. The device will be detected and reinstalled after Windows restarts.
- Follow any instructions on-screen to complete installation.
-
If you are not prompted to restart the computer, follow these steps:
- In Device Manager, in the Action menu, click Scan for hardware changes.
*Note
Scan for hardware changes will not reinstall a Plug and Play device if a driver is already installed on the computer. If the device has not been uninstalled, Scan for hardware changes will not detect the connection of the device as a change. You must uninstall a Plug and Play device for Windows to start an installation when you connect the device again.
If the issue persists, try the first driver on the list from the link below: Click here
Keep me posted,
If the information I've provided was helpful,
give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons,
that'll help us and others see that we've got the answers!
Good Luck.
