Hello
I have the following Problem. I would like to connect/stack 3 switches not by RJ45 copper cables (which I do now) but by a cascading system or by optical wires. Actually I would prefer cascading but I do not know whether this is possible with my devices. My system looks like this for the moment
[1] ProCurve 1810-24G J9450A Software Ver. ?
|
|
[2] ProCurve 1800-24G J9028A Software Ver. PB.02.09
|
|
[3] ProCurve 1800-24G J9028A Software Ver. PB.02.09
[3a] here a ProCurve Gigabit-SX-LC Mini-GBIC with LC connector full duplex
|
The switch below ([4]) is in another location so no need to cascade this one! Just wanted to make sure that you notice that on the switch [3] one optical port is already used. But I don't know whether the switches of this generation support two optical ports used at the same time???

[4] ProCurve 1800-24G J9028A Software Ver. PB.02.09
[4a] here a ProCurve Gigabit-SX-LC Mini-GBIC with LC connector full duplex
In the near future my system will look like this:
[0] Nortel Avaya 4524GT
| [0a] here a Gigabit Ethernet Transceiver SFP connected to another switch Nortel Avay 4524GT

My question again: Is there a way to cascade [1], [2] and [3]. If yes, how and how do I add [0]?
Thank you very much for solutions...

Hi,
As mentioned above, I have not used the copper cables for this type of configuration therefore I don't know BUT for optical cables, this should work.
Regards.

Hi,
Do you use same LC connectors (and LX cables) for 1 and 2 or different. My people just zone them and they use same kind of optical cables. I used to work with MacData, Connectrix & Cisco switches but I know we have HP switches on our floors now.
Regards.

Thank you for your suggestion. I have to say that I'm a rookie on this subject. So what do you mean by whether I use the same cables for [1] and [2]. These are connected now by an Cat. 6 patch cable (copper, right?). And what do you mean by "zoning the switches"?
Thank you

Hi,
We don't use copper cables for cascading switches therefore I can not answer your question, we only use optical cables either longwave or shortwave and we use Fabric Manager to control the zonening. Zonening is a mechanism to control the traffic from 1 switch to other switch(es) or within a same switch.
Regards.

Please excuse my consequent questioning. I was drawing a little sketch to visualize a solution I'm not sure about. If it works like this I would be happy if you would confirm it...
The red lines represent fibre cables. What GBICs should I use? What fibres you suggest?

Hi,
Sorry I can't see the image. The GBIC can be LX or SX and ofcourse must be the same at both ends with the right cables.
Regards.

Hi
I posted the image on http://2nd.ch/cascading.jpg . May be you'll have a quick look at it?
Thanks
