I have an old HP G60 notebook.  It has an AC adapter that s plug to the wall has broken.  I cut off the plug and was going to wire on a new plug.  Normal electricity has a red wire, black wire and white wire.  This one has three wires but they are yellow with green stripe, blue and pink (or beige).  Which one is positive, negative and ground?  I assume the yellow with the green strip is the hot (positive) wire.  Any one know.  I only need to power the computer up enough to get the information onto a new computer, so I did not want to buy any new accessories.

Hi @seawitch640,

Thank you for showing your interest in the HP Forums, I came across your post and wanted to assist you.

I see that AC adapter is broken and you want the colour coding. HP recommends you use genuine parts. So I would suggest you either contact our HP phone support for purchasing a replacement adapter or you could purchase the part by visiting our HP Part Store website.

The problem with your answer is that I have bought a new computer, I only need the charger for a short time to get the info off the old computer.  I just want to put a new electric plug on the end.  Normal electricians use black red and white for wiring.  Why is this plug different.  I assume the hot wire is the yellow with the green stripe.  Is the ground the pink or the blue wire?

Hi @seawitch640,

Thanks for replying.

Unfortunately, we don't have such information available on our HP support website. HP does not recommend faulty part as it could damage the PC. You could try it at your own discretion.

I would personally suggest you could try another compatible adapter one of your friend's or neighbour until you get the data off your old PC.

Let me know if this helps.

Thanks & Regards,

Thank you, I do not need an answer, I had the harddrive removed and am able to use it as an external harddrive.
