Hello together
I wanted to upgrade the RAM of my Compaq NX7300 from 2 x 0.5 GByte to 2 x 2 Gbyte.
CPU ist Intel(R) Core (TM) 2 CPU, T5500 @ 1.66 GHz
SerialNr is [Personal Information Removed] and BIOS is upgraded to F.0E
The Notebook boots with the 2 x 2 Gb Memory inserted, but sees only 2 GBytes.
How can I find out, if my Model supports max. 2 or 4 Gbytes ?
If it supports 4 GBytes, how can I activate them ?
Thanks for your help

Hi:
Your notebook does support 2 x 2 GB of PC2-5300 memory. See page 2 at the link below.

Did you individually test each chip in the expansion slot?
Sounds to me like one of the memory chips is bad.

Hello
Thanks for your suggestion to test the RAMs, with lead indirectly to a solution for my problem.
I checked the following configurtions:
Test 1: RAM Nr. 1 / with 2 Gb) in extension under the Keybord, the other empty
Test 2: Same with RAM Nr. 2 (also 2 Gb)
Test 3: RAM Nr. 1 in extension at bottom of Notebook, the other empty
Test 4: Same with RAM Nr. 2
In Test 1 to Test 4 the BIOS with F10 always showed me 2 GByte RAM directly
So I assumed, that RAM Nr. 1 and RAM Nr. 2 are OK and that the BIOS does not detect or show this changes in configuration.
So I continued with the following Tests:
Test 5: Old RAM with 0.5 Gbyte in extension under the Keybord, the other empty
. Result: Blue Screen with Selection F1, F2, F10, Memory 0.5 Gb in BIOS and Windows
Test 6: Both Old RAMs in extension Slots
. Result: Blue Screen with Selection F1, F2, F10, Memory 1.0 Gb in BIOS and Windows
Test 7: Both New RAMS with 2 Gb in extension slots
. Result: Blue Screen with Selection F1, F2, F10, and o wonder:
. Message 3.53 Gb in BIOS, in Windows XP Memory 3.366 GB
So I assume
Somehow the BIOS dis not detect all changes (no Blue Screen with F1, F2, F10)
Bur it detected the changes from old RAMs to new RAMS (Test 6, 7)
Thanks
