Compaq Presario CQ57-445EQ
Microsoft Windows 7 (32-bit)

So i got this Compaq Presario CQ57-445EQ with Windows 7 and 4GB of ram. Last night i tried to upgrade the BIOS from the first version (2008) to the last (2015) and it got bricked. During the upgrade it got stuck for 30+ minutes and i had to restart. Now it's black screen, caps lock blinking twice every 2 secs. I tried to recover from USB with sp55356 and sp64612 but no luck.

I must mention that Win + B, Fn + B, Fn + Esc combinations doesn't make the laptop beep, but it shows USB activity.

What can i do? The bios versions are .fd files.

Thanks in advance!

Not that I am aware of.

You may need to purchase usb recovery media for your notebook from HP or an HP Partner.

Follow the instructions on the following web page.

http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/Compaq-Presario-CQ57-Notebook-PC-series/5186820/model/5226336/do...

You will need to do this on a different PC and a usb flash drive  will be required to create a usb BIOS recovery flashdrive.

Don't forget to keep us in the loop.

Thanks for your reply!

Cannot get past the point 11. HP System BIOS Update Utility because i get the following errors:

"IHISI: Get support mode fail in SMI!" and "BIOS did not support InsydeFlash!"

In my past attemtps i managed to create a UEFI usb and i've put the .fd bios file in "Current" folder, but no luck.

Please note that the screen is black, no beeps on key combinations and even though i have USB activity, it doesn't do anything.

OK.

Try a different version. There are four versions on the following web document under Windows 7. Look under the previous version section.

Ok, will try. Please tell me if this is correct:

I create the UEFI usb flash, inside i put the .fd file in Hewlett-Packard/Bios/Current, then stick it into the laptop, press Win + B (no beep though) and power button, plug in the AC power and after 20 secs i have that usb flash LED activity.

edit: I made a video to show you the procedure

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zZ9pAx32p4I

Flash drive is a Toshiba 8GB formated in FAT in a partition of 500mb.

Create the BIOS recovery flashdrive.

Do not put any other files in the flashdrive.

Plug the recovery flashdrive into the notebook's usb port.

Connect the AC power adapter.

With your right or left hand, hold down the Windows key and the B key.

Now press the power button with a finger from your other hand. Continue holding Hold the Win + B keys for a couple of seconds and then release them once you see the notebook react.

Take a look at the page I linked you to in my last post. Follow the instructions to the letter this time. I did notice that odd thing you did with holding the Win + B key and then plugging in the power adapter.

I have done recoveries foillowing the procedure on the document a number of times and have been successful each time.

Thanks for taking the time to do the video.

I cannot create the BIOS recovery flashdrive with those instructions, on the PC i get 2 errors when i try that (please see above). I also noticed that with or without Win+B combination it shows flash drive activity, like it don't even matter what i press.

Are there other key combinations for this type of notebook?

Is your notebook still in warranty?

Check your warranty status Here.
