My computer is unexpectedly shutting down at 30% battery life.  I have run a calibrator, reinstalled power management, instaled BIOS update and ran a hard reset.  After the hard reset it started to work for about a week but it is happening again.  My battery life is good so I really do not want to buy a new battery, does anyone know if there is a way to fix this?

Hi,

First of all, shutdown the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter, remove the battery, and then hold down the Power button for a full minute.

Now, plug in the AC Adapter without the battery inserted, start the notebook, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager, expand the entry for Batteries, right click on and the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery and select Uninstall - do not uninstall anything else here.  When the uninstall is complete, shut the PC down, unplug the AC Adapter, re-insert the battery and then start the PC on just the battery.  Windows will automatically reinstall the driver - leave Windows running for a few minutes. Shutdown the PC again.  Now plug in the AC Adapter ( with the battery still inserted ) and start the notebook, let the battery fully charge, then unplug the AC Adapter and run on the battery to see if this has helped the issue at all.

Uninstalling the ACPI compliant control method battery did not fix the issue

Today is shutt off at 40%.  I dont think it is overheating but could that be the problem?  Also could it be something wrong with the computer not the battery?

Hi,

This process will check your operating systems files for any corruption.

From the Start Menu, open All Programs, open Accessories, right click the Command Prompt and select 'Run as Administrator'.  In to the prompt type the following command and hit enter.

sfc /scannow                 ( note that there is a space between sfc and the / )

Let the process complete, then type exit and hit enter.  Restart the PC.

Next, download, install and run the latest version of the HP Battery Check Utility, on the link below.

ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp49001-49500/sp49129.exe

Does this indicate any fault with the battery?

Hi,

From the Start Menu, open All Programs, open Accessories, right click the Command Prompt and enter the following command, then hit enter again.

powercfg -restoredefaultschemes     ( note that there is a space after powercfg )

When complete, type exit and hit enter.  Restart the PC notebook.

Next, from windows Control Panel, open Power Options and click on the Change Plan Settings link next to your selected plan.  In the next window, click Change Advanced Power Settings.  Scroll down to the entry for Battery and click the + sign and change the settings 'Critical Battery Level'  'Low Battery Notification' and 'Low Battery Action' to those shown in the screenshot below.

When done, click Apply in this window and click Save Settings in the previous window.  Restart the notebook and see if this has helped.

Best wishes,

It shut down again at 35 %, I ran the battery check again and now it is saying to replace the battery because it has reached the end of its usefull life.  I get 2-3 hours of battery life, I dont see how it could be at the end of its life.

My Laptop is shutting down automatically at 30% of battery.Shutting down in the sense the screen goes off and gets swtiched off without showing shutdown screen.I experienced less battery life between charges so, I used HP support Assistant software,it asked me to calibrate my battery ..now i couldn't calibrate because of this problem..

So anyone please suggest me a solution.. Thanks in Advance
