HP Pavilion 17-inch Displays
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello, Randomly when i was playing a vidoe game my laptop had shut off and ever since i have been unable to turn it back on.  It was plugged in and charging while i was on it. I have already tried replacing the battery and using it without the battery and only relying on the AC adaptor as sa power source. Nothing seems to be working.

@Clark16alex

Thanks for reaching out to us on HP Support Forums.

I understand that you have an HP Pavilion 17 series laptop. I read that the laptop powered off while playing a game and since then does not power on. Fabulous analysis. Spectacular diagnosis of the issue before posting. Kudos to you for that. You've done a remarkable job performing the steps.

  • What is the exact product model no. This link will help you to find the model no: http://hp.care/2bygf7l
  • Did you ever experience that the laptop was overheating (especially while playing games)?
  • Do you see a light on the laptop where the charger connects?
  • Are any lights on the keyboard blinking continuously (caps lock, power button, etc.)?

While you respond to that, I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix:

  • Power off the laptop.
  • Remove the battery out. If the battery is integrated and does not have a latch to release it then leave the battery inside the laptop.
  • Disconnected AC adapter from the laptop.
  • Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
  • Reconnect the battery and plug the AC adapter.
  • Power ON the laptop.

Once again you may attempt to power on the laptop using only the charger and then by connecting the battery only. If the issue persists and the laptop does not power then the evidence points towards an internal failure with the laptop. on

In such a case you may contact our HP phone support team to explore the available service options.

Hope this information helps. Keep me posted. Take care! 🙂
