I have HP ProBook 4530s which was working as expected i.e. Ctrl keys and Fn Keys were working correctly. Now somehow these two keys are swapped and I want to restore them so that Ctrl Key work as Ctrl key. Please note that I am running Windows 7 on this machine. How can restore this?

Finally I was able to fix the issue following the steps mentioned below:

  1. Turned off the machine
  2. Removed both A/C power and Battery and waited for few seconds
  3. Attached battery, and turned on the machine..

and the issue was resolved!

Just a quick update.  I had the same issue with CTRL and FN swapped on my ProBook 6560b.

I tried many possible solutions:

CTRL + FN+ ALT

Uninstall keyboard device

Disable keyboard device

Look for setting in BIOS to swap the keys.

This solution - remove the power supply and battery - solved my issue.

There is clearly a wierd bug in many of these HP laptops.

this function can be changed in BIOS setup...

Try Ctrl + Fn + Tab and maybe will work.

I had a simmilay problem with the Insert key and solved it with the Ctrl + Fn + Insert
