Pavilion dv6
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Greetings. Recently I had to replace the Hitachi 5k750 harddrive in a HP Pavilion dv6 notebook. Prior, the disk had a SMART hard-disk error and made a loud/odd 'pop' or 'click' noise in a certain part of the disk. I chose to replace it and after waiting a month for the exact same part from a seperate source, the new drive also seemed to make an odd 'click' or 'pop' around certain areas of the drive. The hardrive had not made this noise 6 years prior to the errors, but does after the replacement as well. I would like a second opinion as to, maybe I was sent a damaged drive? or is there an internal part of a notebook pc I am un-aware of making this noise? Thank you.

Thank you. That is true. It also has to fit inside the space the notebook has, in which, the dv6 cannot fit anything much larger...and you had not replied back to my post in which I asked what other drives would be a good fit. I did do memory/disk/BIOS diagnostics in which it all PASSED as well as SSD alignment. Could it just have been the initial starting operation of the drive? because it is reading and writing smoothly throughout, for now. It is also warrantied even though it is 'older'.

It is not uncommon to receive a faulty hard drive. You do not have to replace with exact same hdd. Just needs to be same capacity to use HP Recovery Media- Western Digital,Seagate,Toshiba, etc can all be used.

Have you tested the new hdd-either in BIOS or by tapping F2 at power on to use System Diagnostics?
