HP, Please help,

'Controls Beats Audio Settings' S/W is not OK .

Please advise me how to remove it without causing havoc on my HP ENVY.

I am a 67 year old retired Canadian Senior surviving on a meagre Canadian old age pension

I can not afford to pay for this- I apologize.

THANK YOU for you assistance.

Though I truly hated the Beats Audio on my laptop under Windows 7, it was FAR, FAR WORSE when I upgraded to Windows 10. I've been struggling to find some setting that was at least bearable, but it just didn't happen. Any time I wanted to listen to something, I struggled to find a happy setting, but every time I rebooted it went back to some odd settings where everything sounded terrible.

I tend to prefer flat music settings and Beats is anything but. It colors the sound in unspeakable ways and is totally integrated into the machine's innards.

Well today I tried something recommended on a Windows 10 "fix-it" page. Here are the details for those of you who've upgraded to Windows 10:

 - Right click THIS PC, choose Properties, then Device Manager,

 - Click on Sound, video and game controllers

 - There you'll see the IDT High Definition Codec. Right click and do "Update Audio Driver"

 - Click "Browse My computer for driver software

 - Click Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer

 - You should see both the IDT and a generic Windows driver, High Definition Audio Device - select it.

You might at that point get a warning box that the driver might not be compatible with your device and could cause your computer to fail and the world to end and the sun to go dark. 🙂

My choice was to continue at that point, accepting the risk. It installed properly and after a reboot, the Beats/IDT crap was no longer pollutig my system. When the system rebooted, I watched down in the lower right tray for any signs of Beats. I saw the "b" logo appear and disappear just as quickly. Playing with the audio apps, it all sounds nice and flat, and has held through two reboots.

If you've tried other things, then maybe Windows 10's generic driver  is the answer.
