Hello,

I have a Compaq Presario CQ61-440SA.  Each time I turn on the laptop, it takes me to Hardware DIagnostics before it loads windows.    The checks run and the memory and hard drive pass the tests.

Is there a way to disble this from running?  I tried deleting the partition which holds the tool but then I got a basic looking version of the same thing (Looking like the command prompt).

I can just select exit but wondered if there's a way for me to turn it off all together?

Thanks

Yes, you can.
Type 'msconfig' in Start menu and uncheck HP Support Assistant and other HP related tools from 'Startup'.

Now restart. These things won't be running again when you boot up.

The Hardware Diagnostics tool runs outside of Windows so taking it off of startup may not disable it from running each time. However, msconfig has a Boot tab that can sometimes be the root of similar issues. If you wouldn't mind, take a screenshot of your msconfig Boot tab and insert it into your reply. It should look similar to this

SysConfigBoot.jpg

Only one line should be listed in the top portion. If more than one is listed, which one is selected?

No checkmarks in the bottom half.

General tab by default is set to Selective Startup

What do these two tabs look like for you? Screenshots would help too!

Also, do you have any accessories plugged in to the computer when it boots?

There may be possibility that your Windows had scheduled diagnostics, which run when your pc restarts.

Find those respective scheduler and turn them off. This should work. BIOS doesn't automatically schedules diagnostics on every boot.
