I bought my laptop with a 600GB 5400 RPM HDD and a 32GB SSD for Intel Rapid Storage Technology. This solution greatly increased performance, but frequently caused BSOD so I stopped using RST.
I'm upgrading to a Transcend SSD370 512GB 6Gbps SATA III SSD and would like to run it optimally in AHCI mode. The BIOS will not allow me to change from RAID mode to AHCI or IDE, there is no option.
There may be a BIOS update, but it will not let me install it. I am running Windows 10 and attempting to restart the computer to flash the BIOS update is bypassed by the UEFI.
I have read abroad that HP laptops cannot disable RAID. If there is any way to, I would like to. I want to have the best experience with my new SSD and not use Intel RST.

You do not need to disable RAID. The RAID it uses is fully ahci complaint and will work just fine with a single drive or SSD. During Windows install you need to provide the Intel RST F6 RAID driver on a thumb drive and you can then use the single SSD as the hard drive without any further problems.

The F6 driver fully supports Windows 10:

What if I'm cloning my HDD to my SSD so I don't need to reinstall Windows? Should the SSD work as is?

HP Recommended

Yes the clone would carry over the already-installed RAID driver. Just be careful cloning a larger drive to a smaller. If you shrink all the partitions you may shrink the system partition too much and things like backup and updates may not work right. You might want to use the Windows 10 recovery disk maker option.

My OS is currently installed on a small 32GB mSATA SSD intended for Intel RST but repurpossd for the boot drive until my 512GB SSD comes in. So migrating should be no issue. Thank you for all your answers, we'll see in a couple days how the process goes.
