Hi,

HP laptop, windows 7, Followed a stupid suggestion I disabled the Microsoft AC Adapter from the device manager, battery is dead and laptop doesn’t boot now, any way to recover?

Thanks,

Charging is not dependent on the operating system. There is a circuit on the systemboard which compares the battery voltage to the voltage the power adapter is set to charge to and allows charging to take place. If the power adapter and battery are both in good condition the battery should charge. If charging is not taking place, then either the battery, smart ac power adapter or the systemboard has a fault.

Try a hard reset as follows:

1) Remove the battery and unplug the DC power adapter.
2) Press and hold the power button for more than fifteen seconds.
3) Plug in the DC power adapter (leave the battery out for now)
4) Press the power button

Please post your positive or negative results here in your thread.

Thanks for the prompt replay...
Nothing, fan is working but still not booting, can't even get to the BIOS or "boot from CD" option to reinstall the OS...

Is your notebook still in warranty?

Do you have access to another power adapter with the same specifications?

Is the charge or power led on when you plug in the adapter connector with the battery removed?

Please post the compete product name or product number of your notebook.

Its about 4 years old HP Compaq 6910p, I was using for simple things, I just installed win7, all was fine.. The battery is faulty, the laptop couldn’t stay on if not plugged to an AC outlet.

I had a non related issue that led me to disable Microsoft AC Adapter drver so now it is not booting up. Is there a way to save this laptop?

Thanks,

I would consider replacing the battery. Doing that what will show you if the system board and the power adapter are working as they should.

Does the power led come on when the power adapter is plugged in?

What was the non related issue that led you to disable Microsoft AC Adapter device in the Device Manager?
