I'm trying to open an HP notebook, I've taken out the screws and such but there is one metal clip that seems to be holding it together It is round and located directly over the CD drive. Can I take this off/reattach it safely? I have a photo but can't seem to attach it here.

We don't need a photos if you tell us the model because we have a thing called the Service manual which has pictures.

Please stop until you get some clear direction so the laptop does not wind up in a basket.

By telling us where you are with pages and figure numbers...what is the problem?

Just looking at this and following it may give you the answer.

Pg. 76 (2) I think it is the ' broadhead screw' though there is only one. I mistook it for a rivet with a dimple. I don't have a screwdriver that small so I guess it will have to wait until I can get one hopefully tomorrow, if it is indeed a screw.

All the removeable screws should be standard Phillips head.

Using the same head I did on the other screws will certainly not work.
