My Presario V2000 laptop has display problem. The display works fine only when it is tilted in certain angle.

When the screen is moved the display becomes grey or not readable.

After tilting the display in various angles it will become normal screen

My laptop is 3 years old.

How much does it cost to replace the display ribbon connecting the motherboard and display unit.?

I have recently had this start happening to my HP Pavillion dv9700 as well.

The laptop is just over a year and a half old.

Computer boots up fine but you have to have the monitor in a certain angle to get the screen to show.

If you move it so that its open at 90 degrees, the display turns black but you can still see the desktop but its very VERY faint.

All commands still function but its just not clearly visible because its really dark.

After hooking the computer up via HDMI to my tv the laptop display will be black/dark but the tv will show everything clearly.

I have searched the net for answers but have not found anything specific to what is going on with my laptop.

After talking to a friend of mine, he informed me that it could be possible the ribbon connecting the monitor to the motherboard might be bad or loose.

Anyone have any ideas on what could be wrong and any solutions on how to go about fixing it.

Any kind of advice would be greatly appreciated.

I recently just had this happen to my HP Pavillion dv9000. The laptop is just over two years old which i barely used by the way. Computer boots up fine but you have to have the monitor in a certain angle ( tilited ) to get the screen to show. I read many blogs on what the problem was.. some said the motherboard, some said ram, some said the display... well i took the laptop apart and found it was the video cable.. for the hp pavilion dv9000 series.. it is 17" video cable: FOXDD0AT9LC0011A.. After you open it up, you see the cable runs through the hinge. Due to bad engineering, opening and closing the screen causes the cable to be crushed and the wires inside the cable become disconnected ( broken ). The reason it works at a tilted angle is that the cable is being squeezed by the hinge which applies pressure in the right place to allow the wires to touch... givening you your image. If you take your laptop apart, you can squeeze(jiggle ) the wire around and you see the picture come back to the screen. I tried multiple way to rig the wire to keep the connection, but in the end just didnt cut it.. I called HP and said they can do nothing since my computer was just over two years old and out of the one year warranty.. (if bought with some credit cards may extend to two year warranty). Eventhough I said the problem orginated from a design flaw, they suggested i got through a third party website.. they referred me to two iffy websites from China, cheap parts, but many people said they never receive the product or the product is DOA from reviews. But I found on on ebay for $30.. but also seen them seeling for $65 or more...  hope this helps.

I have the same issue with an HP Pavillion dv9000. Definitely the display cable. Wondering if you have any more details on replacing it though? A YouTube video would be perfect! What I'm really wondering is how much of the display do I have to dismantle to replace the cable? I've never torn into the display on a laptop yet... I'm concerned of the risk of breaking the screen.  Thanks.

Same thing happened to me 6 years ago with my first laptop. Then the same thing happened to me to a laptop which is only a year old; the laptop is hp pavilion dv4-1222nr. Turns out that both these laptops are hp products. I have 2 other lenovo laptops which are 3 and 4 years old and still run perfectly. I think it is a manufacturing flaw.

Same problem with HP DV4-1028US.  Screen only works at specific angle.  How do you replace screen cable.

Funny how HP never ever answered any of the posts here... What a bunch of  I {Content Removed: Language Filter Evasion} hate HP with a passion. I really do and wont be buying any of their crap again! Still looking for a solution to this crappy screen problem.

HP - If you actually did not sell complete{Content Removed: Language Filter Evasion}and helped the customers you would probably do much better!

And no - it is not my first or even 10th HP product, but I guarantee it "IS" my last!

About screen, ofcourse you can change the cable. I havent seen them being sold somewhere tho.

its 95% possibility that its faulty, you just need to change it.
