Pavilion DV6
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

OK, I give up.  I can't find  the right docking station for a Pavilion DV6 Notebook PC.  Model B5S13UA#ABA.  I had one that required an expansion slot but my machine does not have one (that I could find).  I just need something that I can use to turn the PC on/off, run an external monitor, use a wireless keyboard/mouse, plug in my Ethernet cable, and a couple of USB ports would be nice.  Any suggestions?

Yes a USB 3.0 dock plus a spare AC adapter is not a bad option. As opposed to a snap-down where you just walk up and put the laptop on the dock (snap) and then hit a button on the dock to start, with a USB 3.0 you plug in USB, plug in the AC adapter, open the laptop, turn it on, close the lid (you have to set it not to sleep or shut down when you close the lid) and go.

USB 3.0 provides good external monitor support and gigabit ethernet, audio and anything else you want, just more hassle to work with.

Laptop makers have pretty much stopped offering classic "snap-down" docking stations on anything but the highest end enterprise business models. Lenovo only offers classic docks on the Thinkpad business models and HP only offers them on the Elitebook type models not the Pavilions. I agree that USB docks are a poor substitute but that is the way the market is moving.

Thanks for your quick response.  So, a USB Docking Station for my DV6 would provide the options I am looking for (ie, external monitor (nothing fancy), and on/off capability without accessing the actual notebook and the ports for Ethernet and USB)?  Thanks.

Hi,

No, USB dock can't turn the machine on/of. You have to turn on/off from the machine itself. Should be ok for the rest.
