you know what really sucks! I actually made one of those super special recovery discs and now it doesn't work! So that super convenient recovery partition on my hard drive has really worked out. I have actually downloaded and installed windows 7 and punched in my serial number and it won't even accept it because it came from HP...what kind of crap is that? If I have a windows 7 license why can't it unlock the same windows 7 product, whether or not it came from HP.

Try the activate by telphone method. That usually works when activating during install does not work.

Sounds like a good reason not to buy HP. Why would this essential tool not be freely available?
I believe that you may be oversimplifying it and perhaps not realizing that the recovery manager is the copy of the operating system that was delivered with your notebook.
You are allowed to make a single recovery media item .
You have a choice of making a recovery disk set or usb recovery flashdrive. Once you have made it the recovery media creatioon software will not let you create another recovery flashdrive or recovery disk set.
If you wish to install the recovery partition, which is where the recovery manager is, then you will have to boot to the recovery media that you created and perform a factory image recovery. The recovery partition, with the recovery manager, will be created and available again from the F11 key on power on again. The downside is that a factory image recovery is destructive in that it will delete all of the data you have saved n the notebook siv=nce you set it up. Your notebook will be in the state that t was delivered to ytou from the factory.
I suspect, and I have noticed that you have made no mention of it, that you have inadvertently deleted the recovery partition and now realize that you cannot access it.
If you did not create recovery media and your notebook is still in warranty, contact HP and request to have a recovery flash drive to be sent to you. I cannot guarantee that it will be without cost, but it may be.
This method of recovery media creation is pretty much the industry standard and has been so since 2010 or therabouts.

Well HP EXPERT, it would help if our so called expert would read what the thread is about. We are all here because we do not have this industry wide abilaty BECAUSE WE DO NOT HAVE RECOVERY MANAGER INSTALLED ON OUR COMPUTERS AND HP WANTS TO CHARGE FOR THE OPERATING SYSTEM WE PAID FOR

I'm also trying to recover my Windows 7 OS but the recovery partition is on the corrupt disk. Who's idea was it to put it there and then not allow us to download it?? Seems like predatory practices to me. If they want to charge me $30 for this that means I'm done buying from HP.
